"Mr... Mr. Zimmerman... what, what brings you here?"
His groveling smile was uglier than a sobbing fit. "This wretched girl is blind and completely ignorant. I'll make sure to teach her a lesson."
He kicked the stunned Cassie, who was collapsed on the floor. "Hurry up and apologize to Mr. Zimmerman!"
"I'm sorry, I was wrong... Mr. Zimmerman, I'm so sorry..."
Cassie blabbered incoherently. Seeing her father behaving so subserviently, she finally realized she had provoked someone utterly untouchable.
"Hand it over," he ordered.
George froze, then instantly realized what he meant. He frantically offered it up with both hands.
"Mr. Zimmerman, here it is. Please don't take any of that nonsense to heart."
Miles took the recording pen and held it out to Claire.
Claire's eyelashes fluttered. She didn't take it. Instead, she opened her slightly red palm. "My hand hurts too."
"So what should we do?"
Her tone was incredibly spoiled. "I don't care. I want him to slap himself back."
Miles looked down at her palm, then glanced at George's swollen, red cheek, instantly putting two and two together.
He raised his eyes to look at George, who was slumped on the floor, looking like a dead man. Miles's voice was deathly calm.
"Did you hear her?"
"Mr... Mr. Zimmerman..." George grit his teeth. "Her hand is obviously..."
Red from slapping him in the face.
But meeting Miles's murderous gaze, he didn't dare utter another word. Squeezing his eyes shut, he braced himself and viciously slapped his own face several times.
The pitiful vulnerability completely vanished from Claire's face, replaced by a deep, satisfying thrill.
Miles pulled out a document and dropped it onto the floor.
