"No need."
Miles had reverted to his usual detached demeanor, fastening the final button of his dress shirt.
Stepping away from the bed, he looked every bit the picture of an immaculate, untouchable gentleman once again.
The glimmer of expectation in Claire's eyes vanished.
Leaning back slightly, she hooked her bare toes against the hem of his shirt and scoffed lightly.
"You're no fun at all, Doctor."
She threw off the thin blanket, grabbed the fresh clothes Miles had ordered for her, unfastened the remaining buttons on her silk dress, and stripped right in front of him.
Miles immediately averted his eyes and turned his back to her.
The soft rustle of fabric rubbing against skin was deafeningly clear in his ears.
His voice was tight. "Claire, have you no shame?"
Claire tossed the ruined silk dress onto the messy bed and pulled on the fresh garments.
As she dressed, she stared at his broad back, her lips curving into a smirk.
"Shame? It's not like you didn't have your hands all over me last night."
Her tone dropped into a teasing purr. "I helped you so much my hands were practically cramping, and yet you're acting so cold."
"Claire," the man growled low, lacing his words with a warning, though his ears were still violently red.
Taking in the delightful contradiction, Claire didn't push him any further. She smoothed out her new dress.
"What are you going to do about Vivian?"
Only then did Miles turn around. He took in the sight of her in the long gown.
Stripped of the overt seduction of the silk dress, she radiated a fresh, natural allure, bare-faced and stunning.
He lowered his gaze, his tone calm and even.
"Pull the security footage, compile the evidence, file a police report, and trace the source of the drugs."
Crisp, logical, and entirely uncompromising. It was a fiercely 'Miles' approach.
Claire's eyes sparkled, her voice dripping with amusement.
"Oh, we're definitely calling the cops, but there's no need to rush." She smiled wickedly, brimming with calculation.
