A heavy glass tumbler had been slammed down onto a marble tabletop.

As the shocked, bewildered crowd whipped their heads around, a tall, imposing figure rose from the adjacent booth.

Claire froze, her fingers slipping away from her dress.

She knew she had just won her gamble.

Miles strode past the privacy partition. The air around him dropped to a terrifying chill, his face an absolute mask of ice.

His stormy gaze slashed across Daisy, then locked onto the Ace of Hearts sitting on the table.

“Did the Zimmerman family raise you to run wild like a complete degenerate?”

“Uncle Miles! What are you doing here? We were just drinking with my coworkers... It was just a joke, we didn't mean anything by it...”

Miles cut her off. “Your idea of a joke is using the Zimmerman name to publicly humiliate someone?”

“I wasn't! Uncle Miles, I swear, it was just a stupid game...”

The usually arrogant, untouchable Yvonne lost every ounce of her bravado, scrambling to explain herself.

Jefferson furrowed his brow, set his drink down, and stood up to smooth things over, pasting on a flawless corporate smile.

“Mr. Zimmerman, it's just a misunderstanding. Yvonne is out having fun with me. She's young, and she was just messing around with my employees. No need to take it seriously.”

“Besides, she wasn't the one who came up with the penalty, so she has nothing to do with it.”

Jefferson looked at Claire, his tone gentle but dripping with thinly veiled threat.

“Right, Claire?”
