Jude
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about Wendy spending the night with Hijack out in the wild. I don’t think that she’d snuggle up with him the way she did with me, especially since she and I are dating, but I also know that she probably won’t sleep if she doesn’t. Wendy isn’t used to sleeping in the wild, out of a bed, or away from someone that she feels safe with. I’m just not sure if Hijack counts as one of those people she feels safe with.
So, first thing in the morning when Luna Yara, now Sanatrix, comes to see me, I tell her I’m better and ready to get back in the field. 1
She turns and looks at me.
“Jude, do I tell you how to do your job?” she asks me.
I frown. “No, Luna.”
“Exactly. I would appreciate the same level of respect from you.”
I open my mouth, but no words come out. I’m not used to hearing Luna Yara put anyone in their place. I’ve heard that she does it, but I’ve never seen it, until now.
“Am I not ready to go back out in the field, Luna?” I ask. 1
“There’s a reason that you were put on a twenty-four-hour leave, Jude. Your body may have healed, but you still have to recover. Wouldn’t you agree, Saggio?” she asks my wolf.
“Yes, Luna,” he says, sounding miserable because he feels like he’s let me down.
‘It’s okay, Buddy. I’m not mad. I’m just anxious to get back to Wendy,’ I tell him.
‘As am I, but Luna Yara is right. We’re healed, but still not a hundred percent yet.’ ‘Then we’ll wait.’
“What you can do, is work on the security system around here, as long as you don’t overexert yourself,” she says.
“Thank you, Luna,” I say, trying to get back into her good graces.
She stops and looks at me, then smiles. “You wouldn’t be an Alpha if you weren’t trying to push yourself harder than you should, Jude, but there’s a reason that I’m given carte blanche in every hospital I work in. Alphas run the packs, or missions, or whatever it is that needs to be run. I make sure that the Alphas and other pack members are able to do their jobs effectively. I’m not angry with you, but I am going to stand my ground and force you take the time you need to heal. You’ll thank me for it later.”
“I’ll thank you for it now, Luna, if it will give me extra brownie points,” I say, grinning at her.
“I can see why my daughter is so enamored with you,” she says, but since it’s in her murmuring voice, I know I wasn’t supposed to hear it.
“I’m pretty enamored with her too,” I say, even though she doesn’t realize she spoke out loud.
Her eyes widen and I wink at her just as the door bursts open and Yana rushes in.
“So, I hear you need an assistant.”
“Yes I do. Are you volunteering?” I ask, grinning at her.
“Hell, yeah!”
“Language, Yana,” Luna Yara says. Yana rolls her eyes behind her mother’s back.
“As soon as your mother releases me, we can get started.”
“Is there anything I can do to help us get started before that? Mom takes FOREVER to release people from her hospital,” Yana grumbles.
“Yana, I take the time that is necessary, no more, no less.”
“FOREVER!” Yana mouths behind Luna Yara’s back as she rolls her eyes again. I can’t help but grin. She reminds me of my younger sisters.
“Do you still have your computer?” I ask her.
“Yes!”
