Cyra
Since Quirin and Kennedy are planning to head home after they make their announcement, we drive two cars to Christer’s old pack. I guess it’s our pack now, or it will be by the time we return to our ‘other’ pack tonight.
“How are you feeling about everything Cyra?” Warren asks me. He and Yorick are sitting in the front while I chose to sit in the back. I’m behind Warren, so when I look up, I meet his eyes in the rearview mirror.
Yorick turns to look at me, reaching out to put a hand on my knee.
“There’s just so much to do,” I say. “It was already a lot, but now, with another pack, adding pack lands, increasing patrols …” I stop, getting overwhelmed with everything that still needs to be done.
“It will all get done. We didn’t have time to sit down today to go over the finances, but you still have two more days, and you aren’t the only Alpha in your pack. Yorick can work on patrols along with your father’s Beta and Gamma, if you trust them. Yara can help us plan the gathering of the packs. While we’re in Christer’s pack, we’ll look through his old office and talk to his Beta and Gamma. Connor can let us know his impressions of them but I think he was already impressed with Beta Eric.”
When we arrive, I can feel the tension in the pack. I realize immediately that it has nothing to do with Yorick and I, and everything to do with Quirin.
“Hey!” Connor says, walking out to greet us. I notice that while everyone is stealing glances at Kennedy, no one is looking directly at her as if they’re afraid that Quirin might take offense.
“How are my future allies?” he says, hugging his father, then his brother, then me.
“Quirin gave us the paperwork to sign the agreement with you before you leave today,” Yorick tells him.
“Q’s awesome like that,” Connor says, hugging Quirin and then his twin.
“You’ve been hanging out with Henry again,” Quirin says.
“He’s the closest one to me. Plus, you’ve been busy taking over the world or some shit,” Connor says, easily joking with Quirin.
“Yeah and that ‘some shit’ is about to be done. I want to get home my pups.”
“Good, your hair is looking a bit dull without any glitter in it,” Connor says, grinning widely as Quirin growls at him. Kennedy just smiles and leans into her mate. He kisses her quickly before stepping forward.
“Attention everyone!” he says, his voice booming out around the pack. Everyone goes quiet and the tension gets heavier. “As you all know, I defeated your Alpha yesterday. That would make me your Alpha, except for one thing. Alpha Cyra and Alpha Yorick are the ones who were impacted by the loan your previous Alpha took out and I bought. They will be taking over the loan from me and this pack is included as part of that loan, meaning, they now own this pack,” Quirin says.
Everyone turns to look at me and Yorick.
“For those of you who haven’t heard, Alpha Cyra defeated her father in a battle for her pack yesterday and she made her mate, Alpha Yorick, a co-Alpha of that pack.”
He turns to look at us. “I’m assuming it will be the same here?”
“Absolutely,” I say without hesitation.
“So, I will not be holding your Alpha ceremony today. Alpha Cyra and Alpha Yorick will be doing that. They will explain to you why Alpha Warren is here and his role in your lives over the next year.” He turns to look at us. “I’ll leave you to it.”
We say our goodbyes to them as Quirin obviously meant what he said about not sticking around.
When we turn back, I step forward, feeling the tension recede. It’s not gone completely, but without the fear of Quirin, it’s greatly reduced.
“For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Alpha Cyra. As Alpha Quirin said, I defeated my father in a battle to overtake his pack yesterday. This,” I say, gesturing to Yorick who comes to stand beside me, “is Alpha Yorick, my mate. We are both currently attending the Warrior Academy and Yorick intends to take a position with one of the elite warrior teams that work for the Council. So while he will be co-Alpha, there will be times when he is away from the pack working. Once I complete my year at the Academy, I will become a full-time Alpha managing what will become our one, unified pack.”
