Wendy
Wow that man knows how to kiss!
I didn’t miss the surprised and jealous looks from the she-wolves in the pack when Jude and I walked in after sparring, but I ignored them. I’ve watched she-wolves around my brothers, Henry, and Quirin all my life. It’s nothing new.
I do, however, smile when Jude’s sisters begin clapping as I sit down to breakfast.
“Who taught you to fight like that?” Alpha Sean asks.
“My Dad started my training when he was Alpha. I’ve trained on occasion with Alpha Henry, but his style is similar to Connor’s. Once Kennedy was mated to Quirin and my parents started spending time in their pack, I began training with him. Now, my brother Yorick and his mate have their own pack and since they just finished a year at the Academy, I’m learning even more. And don’t get me started on training with Jude and Hijack. So, I’ve got a pretty well-rounded start to fighting which will only become even more lethal when I start the Academy in a couple of months.”
“Wow,” Alpha Sean says, looking at Jude. He just smiles.
“Who’s coming to the beach with us?” he asks.
“All of us. Well, not Riley, but the rest of us are coming,” Caitlin says.
“Actually, Riley IS coming,” Riley says, grinning at his sisters. “Someone has to keep the vultures away from my sisters.
“That’s what Jude is for,” Isobel whines.
“Nope,” Riley says. I guess flirting at the beach is a popular pastime.
“Do you surf, too, Dane?” I ask him.
“Hell, yeah! I love it.”
“You just like all the attention you get from the girls who watch you,” Kira teases.
“What’s your point?” he asks, taking a big bite of food and grinning at her.
“I think I’m the only one in the family who doesn’t surf. Even Riley finds time, but I’ve had one too many saltwater nasal washouts to enjoy it,” Kira says.
“You’re just scared of the sharks,” Dane teases her.
The banter of their family is so much like mine that it’s impossible to not feel right at home.
When I look at Jude, he’s watching me. He winks at me and I grin, before focusing on my food.
“Okay, I told Wendy to bring a bathing suit, but she didn’t have one of those big floppy hats you wear,” he says to his sisters.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got you,” Isobel says.
“And make sure you take some sunscreen, Jude. She looks like she’ll burn in minutes out there. Make sure you reapply more often than you think you’ll need, Wendy,” Luna Abigail says.
“I will, Luna, thank you.”
After breakfast, we all go upstairs to change. When I pull out my bathing suit, I second guess my choice. It’s good for our pool, but maybe it’s not good for the beach.
Well, it’s all I brought, so it will have to be good enough.
I put a tank top and shorts over top of the suit and step out of my room.
“Here you go,” Isobel says, handing me a huge hat.
“Are you sure I’ll need sunscreen if I’m wearing this?” I ask.
“Trust me, you will. The sun finds every unprotected nook and cranny and getting sunburned is no fun. Even my wolf gets whiney about it,” she says.
When the others join us, we all get into a large SUV, putting towels, chairs, sunscreen, and a cooler in the back. The surf boards are already strapped to the top.
It takes about an hour to drive to the beach and on the way, the traffic becomes heavy.
“Wow, it is always like this?” I ask.
“Oh yes,” they all say.
“We have it so nice in our area,” Jude says.
“I’ll say. I wouldn’t want to drive in this mess,” I say.
“Don’t worry, Malibu Beach is worth the drive,” Riley says.
I’m still looking around at the congested roadways, when Jude gets my attention.
“Wendy, look,” he says, pointing out the front of the car. Riley is stopped at a light and in front of us is the ocean. It's beautiful shades of blue and green and it looks like it goes on forever.
“Oh, wow!” I say.
Riley rolls down the window. “Smell that salty air!”
When he turns right, I realize Jude put me against the window on the left side of the car so I’d be able to see the water as we drove.
“It’s incredible,” I whisper, in complete awe of the beauty.
“See down there, those are surfers already catching waves,” he murmurs.
“Oh my goddess! I can’t wait!” Caitlin says excitedly.
“It’s definitely a good day to surf.”
