The Pack's Luna: The Pack Series Book 4 novel Chapter 15

Henry

I watched my mate walk her friend out of Quirin and Kennedy’s packhouse. I’m not sure she realized that she stood beside her in a protective stance, as if making sure that no one hurt her friend.

Since Vivienne has agreed to accept Quirin and Kennedy as her Alpha and Luna, I’m guessing it has more to do with her friend’s nerves than worrying that someone might attack her.

Tyrus started purring immediately, loving the protectiveness of our mate for another.

‘A perfect Luna, he said, pushing forward to watch her through my eyes.

I can’t disagree. Everything I’ve seen so far makes me realize how utterly perfect she is for me and for my pack.

Once Vivienne is on the stage, I step forward, taking advantage of Piper’s distraction to get close to her before she can move away from me.

I have no idea who told her about the kissing and making up, but her threat to punch me only makes me want her more. Damn. I had no idea how much fun it would be to have a mate like Quirin. I used to love irritating Quirin and getting under his skin. I already know that it’s going to be the same with Piper. The difference is, once she gives in, it will be such a sweet surrender. Until then, annoyance seems to be the way to get to speak to me and I can work with that.

“I didn’t say I find you attractive,” she snaps, keeping her voice low so we don’t interrupt Vivienne’s acceptance.

“You said I have a pretty face. I’ll admit it’s not exactly the description I was hoping for, but I’ll take whatever little breadcrumbs you want to throw me.”

I watch her grit her teeth in frustration.

“I am not throwing you breadcrumbs.”

“You seem to have some violent tendencies, Piper. You

– should spar with me tomorrow, maybe work out some of that aggression.”

She whips around, giving me the fakest smile l’ve ever seen. Of course, she’s not trying to hide that it’s fake, which only makes me grin wider.

“Do you like it rough, Alpha? You like having a woman leave bruises on you?”

I lean in, getting in her space. “If you like it rough, l’m game for anything. And I’ll take whatever mark you want to leave on me, gorgeous.”

She narrows her eyes, and I have no doubt that whatever is about to come out of her mouth is scathing, but I interrupt her. Again.”You’re about to miss it,” I say.

“What?” she snaps.

I nod toward the stage. “Your friend is about to officially become part of Quirin’s pack.”

She spins around so fast her hair slaps me in the face.

The pack howls as Vivienne’s mind link connects. I watch, entranced, as my mate puts her fingers in her mouth and whistles more shrilly than Quirin’s pups when they scream.

I know my time is up for now, so I lean in again, close to her ear so I’m sure she can hear me.

“I’ll catch you later,” I say.

“I doubt it. You seem to like spending your time with women who aren’t Alphas, so you’ve probably forgotten what’s it’s like to chase a woman who can actually run,” she says, then turns and looks me over quickly and with a look of absolute disdain. “Plus, you’re old. I very much doubt that you could catch Fallon.”

“Try me, gorgeous. I would love nothing more than to hunt and catch my mate,” Tyrus growls, making her body shiver.

“And, trust me when I say I’m young enough to keep up with you, my mate,” I say, bleeding into the crowd before she can spin and make some other snarky comment.

When she turns to say something, I watch until she finds me in the crowd, then I wink and duck out of sight.

When I hear a frustrated grunt, I grin.

‘That was very satisfying, Tyrus says.

‘One day when we get the chance to hunt her, you’d better fucking catch her. I refuse to let my mate think we’re too old for her, I tell him.

“Oh, I will catch her and when I do, I will make sure she knows just how good it feels to be mated to a wolf who is experienced enough to know what he’s doing.’

I shove my hands in my pockets and go find Quirin.

He raises an eyebrow at me as I approach.

“Did I miss her punching you? I did, didn’t I?”

| laugh. “No, but I did offer to let her punch me during sparring tomorrow.”

“And did she accept?” he asks.

I smile, thinking of our exchange.

“She will.”

“Good. I’d hate to miss out on the female version of me taking you down.”

I shake my head, accepting the drink that he offers me and sipping as I look around for my mate.

“We can do that!” Kaylee says excitedly.

“It’s your funeral,” Quirin chokes out before I stand and let the girls lead me over to Piper.I see her glance at me from the corner of her eye, then turn and focus on whatever Vivienne is saying to her friends.

“PIPER!” the girls yell. She turns, then frowns when she sees them leading me her way.

“Piper, you and Uncle Henry have to kiss and make up!”

Kaylee says.

“Yeah, then you can be friends again,” Kendra adds.

“What?” Piper asks, frowning at them and looking at me.

Everyone around us goes quiet, watching the interaction. I hadn’t thought through having an audience for my apology, but here goes nothing.

“Actually girls, I haven’t apologized to Piper yet,” I say pulling my hands out of theirs and facing Piper.

“From the bottom of my heart, l am truly sorry for hurting you, Piper. It was not my intention, I hope you realize that.

And I will do everything in my power to make it up to you if you will give me the chance.”

She frowns at me. I don’t take my eyes off of her, but I see her friend watching me carefully.

“Okay, now you have to kiss and make up!” Kaylee says excitedly.

Piper’s frown deepens. “Can’t I just accept his apology?” she asks.”No, silly! That’s not how it works. You have to kiss and make up so you can be friends again,” Kendra says, reaching up to grab each of our hands and pulling us closer together.

“That’s not how it works,” I say, forcing myself not to grin at her. I’m positive she would punch me if I did.

She narrows her eyes at me. “Fine,” she says.

She leans in and I know she’s going to give me the quickest peck on the lips she possibly can in order to satisfy the girls.

But the moment her lips touch mine, I cup her face in my hands and deepen the kiss, reveling in her pumpkin pie taste. I can’t help myself, she tastes so delicious, that I growl softly.

She reaches up and fists my shirt in her hands. I clench my stomach, ready for the punch. Instead, I’m pleasantly surprised when she whimpers softly and leans into the kiss.
