Quirin
“Vivienne,” I calt when I’m done. I know she’ll go easy on him, but I intend to let Henry know that if Gavin decides he wants to be an elite warrior, he needs to start training him hard.
“Can’t I continue to work with you, Alpha Quirin?” he asks me.
I look at him, raising an eyebrow. I thought he was afraid of me.
“You want to spar with me?”
“Alpha Henry said you’re the strongest Alpha he’s ever met. He’s been sparring with me this week, but I think he’s going easy on me.”
“I can guarantee he is. He won’t want to upset his mate by hurting you.”
“But you won’t go easy on me, will you?” he asks.
“What do you hope to gain by this, young Alpha?” I ask him.
He looks down at his feet. “I’ve watched the warriors in Alpha Henry’s pack this week. They are all better fighters than the warriors in my old pack. I don’t want to be weak. I don’t want to be like my father and brother. I want to get stronger and be a better, smarter fighter.”
“You have a long way to go, Gavin,” I warn him.”Then the sooner I get started, the faster I’ll become better,” he says, looking back up at me.
I smile. “You remind me of your sister, which is a huge compliment. Get ready young Alpha. Warrior training is about to begin,” I say, taking my more usual stance, the one that is neither offensive or defensive.
He frowns, like most people do who haven’t sparred with me before. I gesture for him to come at me again. This time, I block him, tag him hard in the kidneys, then skip backward.
“You’re extending too far and leaving yourself open to attack. Try again.”
For the next two hours, I work Gavin over hard. I have to admit, I thought he’d quit halfway through, but he didn’t.
He kept getting up and coming again. At the end of sparring, he’s earned my respect.
“You did good,” I tell him.
“It doesn’t feel like I did good,” he says, limping into the packhouse.
“You didn’t quit, and you listened when I gave you instruction. If you continue to do that, you’ll get stronger every day. Henry’s right. You would do well to train in all four of our allied packs. We all have different styles.
Henry’s and Connor’s are more text book styles of fighting. Mine is more of a rogue style of fighting and Yorick and Cyra’s is more honed and deadly because of their time in the Academy. If you’re interested, talk to Henry about spending time in all the packs. You can rotate a week at a time, learn new skills, then take them to thenext pack to learn more.”
“Thanks, Alpha,” he says, before joining Vivienne.
I jog over to where my mate is at a table with all but two of our pups. Kenra and Kaylee are just walking in with Kier.
“How did it go?” I ask, leaning down to kiss the tops of my pups’ heads.
“He still beat us,” Kendra grumbles.
“Well, he IS my Beta for a reason. And you aren’t quite three yet.”
“When is Uncle Wade coming back?” Kaylee asks.
“Or Aunt Piper. We like fighting with her too,” Kendra adds.
“Piper, I’m not sure about, but Uncle Wade is coming back tomorrow.”
That makes my girls happy, and we all sit down to breakfast.
I look around the table at my family, my family that continues to grow as my love for my mate grows. I never expected to have or be loved. I thought that having a pack was enough until Kennedy came into my life and filled it with so much love that it makes my heart ache. Now, my Life is so completely full of love, laughter, and happiness, I don’t know how I ever survived my life before Kennedy.
My mate begins purring loudly and I look up, seeing her happiness shining in her eyes. I know she heard my thoughts, and I know it makes her happy to know how happy she makes me.”I love you, Quirin,” she says.
” I love you too, Kennedy.”
“I wonder how many more pups that love is going to create. At this rate, they’ll have to build another packhouse, not that Kennedy would complain about that,” Luna Yara murmurs, making me grin and Kennedy blush.
“Why do we need a new packhouse grandma?” Quilla asks.
Yara looks up like she always does when she doesn’t realize she’s spoken out loud. “Oh, did I say that out loud?”
“Yes, you did, grandma. Why do we need a new packhouse? Is the pack hospital not big enough anymore?” Quinlee asks her.
“It’s because of how passionately I love your mother,” I say, using Luna Yara’s word for why we have so many pups at once.
“Oh, we already knew that,” Kendra says, as if it’s obvious.
“Yeah, Uncle Wade said we’ll probably have our own pack before mom stops having pups,” Kaylee says.
