Henry
I understand Piper’s concern about me going to see Gage alone. I am most likely walking into a pack that is in chaos with an Alpha that has no control of his pack. It’s not ideal, but I’m also not a new Alpha. I know how to handle chaos, and also know that I’m stronger since completing my bond with Piper. Her power has become mine and my mate is one powerful woman.
I arrived at the guard gate, was told that I was expected, and to head to the packhouse. Even from the guard, l could feel the tension in the pack. A pack is only as strong as their Alpha. This pack has not only lost their previous Alpha and their current Alpha, they lost one of their Alpha heirs and their Beta, all over the course of a few weeks. I’m sure hearing that Alpha Glenn was sent to prison didn’t help the pack feel settled.
So, when I walk into chaos, I’m not surprised
As I pull up to the packhouse, I see Gage facing off against five other wolves. I don’t know how large this pack is, but a large portion of pack members are standing around, watching the action unfold.
I get out and walk over to where Gage is standing his ground, but not very well.
“Who the fuck are you?” one of the men who is confronting Gage snarls at me.I don’t blink. I don’t hesitate. I slam a chop to his throat, just hard enough to make his throat spasm and close so it will take him long enough to be able to breathe that he will always remember to never to speak to me like that again.
“My name is Alpha Henry. My mate and Luna is Piper, the previous Alpha female of this pack. 1 am here to mentor Alpha Gage as he takes over as Alpha of this pack. Why does that matter to you? First, it means he has the support and strength of my pack backing him as your Alpha. It mean he has the support and strength of my allies, Alpha Connor, Alpha Quirin, and Alphas Yorick and Cyra backing him. Any act against Alpha Gage is an act against all of us. Believe me when I say that you will not survive if you go against us,” I say, to the pack before turning to Gage.
“First lesson as an Alpha. Disrespect can never be tolerated. You can handle it in one of three ways: You can teach a lesson,” I say, gesturing to the man on his knees still clutching his throat and struggling to breathe. “You can eject them from the pack, or you can rip their throat out. It doesn’t matter that everyone is going through a difficult time right now. It doesn’t matter that the pack is in transition because your father and brother made a mess of things. Never, ever tolerate disrespect.”
He stares at the man on his knees. “Yes, Alpha.”
“Who is he?” I ask, as the man finally sucks in air, catching himself as he collapses forward.”Gamma Kyle.”
I grunt. Why am I not surprised
“Well, my suggestion to you is to clean house and start with a fresh group of ranked members. Anyone who served under your father or brother probably knew what was going on and did nothing to stop it. They might have even encouraged it,” I tell him before turning back to the pack. “Anyone who thinks that things are going to continue as they were, anyone who WANTS things to continue as they did under Alpha Glenn or Alpha Grady, I would suggest that you pack your bags and leave this pack. Things are going to change, for the better. Get on board with that or get out. Anyone else want to question Alpha Gage’s leadership in this pack?”
When no one says anything, I turn to him. “How about we start with a tour of your pack. Let’s see what we’re working with,” I say.
He nods and he takes me around the perimeter of the pack. I make note of his patrols and how frequently they pass, which isn’t frequent enough if you want to avoid someone attacking you.
“Second rule of being an Alpha, never show fear. I don’t care how scared you are, I don’t care how outnumbered you are, you and your wolf are Alphas. You never show fear and you never back down, not in a fight anyway,” I say.
He frowns. When do you back down?
“With your mate. When you find her, treat her like a queen, because she should be the queen of your heart. That’s not to say that you can’t disagree with her or her with you, but never disrespect her, never assume that she should bow to you because you’re an Alpha. Treat her as an equal, make sure she knows that she’s the only woman for you, and she’ll become the queen you’ve made her in your life.”
“Is that what you do with Piper? Treat her like a queen?” he asks.
“She is my queen. She will always be my queen. Your sister ..” I shake my head. “There are no words to describe how amazing she is or how proud l am that she’s my mate.”
We’re quiet as we continue to walk and no patrols run by.
“You’re family now, Gage. To me, to your sister, to our allies, family is everything. Imeant it when I said you aren’t alone anymore.”
“Thank you.”
He opens his arms and I wrap mine around him. “You’ve got this. Remember, never show fear, never allow dişrespect. If you remember those two things, you’ll be fine. We’ll work on the rest,” I say quietly.
He waves as I drive off and I call Piper, having left later than planned.
“Henry?”
“I’m on my way back, beautiful. Decide where you want to go for dinner. I’ll tell you all about my day.”
“There’s a food truck right down the street from here. How about we go there?”
“Perfect. I’ll see you soon, my mate.”
“Not soon enough. I love you.”
“I love you too,” I say, then hang up, pleased with how today went and how Gage responded to his first day of being mentored.
