Katie and Kenneth’s (Wolf) Story- Chapter 8
Katie’s POV-
The next morning I got up early and showered. I was eager to see Phoenix. I was told she was coming early this morning. Part of me was really nervous about seeing Wolf again. I told him what I had been through, and I didn’t tell him to keep it a secret. Queenie knows, and f know she would never say anything to anyone. Doc and Allison are bound by doctor–patient confidentiality, so they won’t tell a soul without my consent.
Speaking of Wolf, I can’t believe he showed me his scars on his back. They are horrific, but it says a lot that I was the first to see them. I have been feeling so special because I was the first he trusted to show. He really helped me gain some confidence in the scars that I do have. He seemed very surprised when I hugged him. I felt the way he tensed for a few seconds before relaxing and hugging me back very gently.
I have to admit the little crush I had on him back before I left here after my dad died. I just assumed I was grieving, and the little crush I had on him would disappear. It really did, until i danced with him at Carnage and Queenie’s wedding. I guess it grew stronger then, but it was just a dance. He avoided me most of the time. I assumed it was because he didn’t want me, or maybe he thought that I wanted to stay away from this life, and he couldn’t be the one to pull me back into it. Problem is, it appears I have never left. Adding in his confession about struggling to come to terms with his scars. It could very well mean he was keeping me at arm’s length.
God forbid, Mike finding out. I think he might actually beat the shit out of Wolf. He might kill Wolf, if anything ever happened between Wolf and me. No one can know what I feel. I have to keep it a secret. I can’t deal with this right now because of what I am dealing with.
My mind had been running a million miles from the moment I woke up. I left my room, heading towards the common room, knowing that it is where the club usually has breakfast. Beth saw me, she rushed over to hug me. Within seconds, I was swarmed by the old ladies. They were all asking how I was, and if I needed anything, how I slept. There were too many questions at once. I clocked Wolf sitting at a table, Devil next to him. Wolf had his eyes completely fixed on me. It felt like he was checking me over, like he was readying to swoop him and steal me away.
“Okay, okay, let’s give Katie some space. I am sure she is hungry, and I know there is
someone she has yet to meet,” Queenie said, as she came towards me with an adorable little four–year–old on her hip.
“Is this little Zane?” I asked.

Queenie nodded, as Carnage called out, marching towards us, “Put him down, my queen. I know he loves his cuddles with you, but you are getting too far along to be picking up.”
I chuckled, and so did Queenie. I reached out my hands to Zane. He lifted his head from Queenie’s shoulder, and reached out to me. I took him from Queenie and said, “Hi, little Zane. I am your Auntie Katie.”
“Katie. Mama, Katie home,” Zane said.
“He knows me?” I asked, clearly puzzled with tears welling in my eyes.
Queenie and Carnage nodded, as Queenie said, “You are family, Katie. We always reminded Zane of who his family is.”
Zane kept repeating, “Katie home, Katie home.”
That made my eyes well with tears. “Can Auntie Katie get a big cuddle from Zane?” I asked.
Zane nodded eagerly and flung his little arms around my neck. Giving me a huge cuddle. Honestly, it was just what I needed. Knowing that even though so much had changed here at the club, none of them ever forgot about me and openly made sure that their children knew exactly who I was. That meant the whole damn world to me right now. I held him a little tighter to me, hiding my face slightly in his hair.
“Shall we get some breakfast, Zane, because I don’t know about you, but I am starving,” I whispered.
“Pancakes, pancakes,” Zane chanted.
“Oh, with chocolate or fruit,” I asked.
Zane giggled excitedly, “Both.”
“Buddy, you be good for Auntie Katie, I need to help your mummy get sat down, and then I will come back and help,” Carnage said, in an extremely soft voice.
I have to admit that it surprised me. I had never heard him talk that softly before. Mike chuckled behind me, “Yeah, it freaked us all out before, too. We had heard him talk softly to Queenie, but never like that. He is a good father.”
Carnage took Queenie to take a seat at the usual table they sat at when we were younger. I carried Zane to get breakfast. Mike followed behind me, and asked, “How are you this morning?”
“I am dealing with it. But Mike, little ears, don’t need to hear about what I went through,” I replied, glancing down at Zane in my arms.

I glanced across the room and noticed Wolf staring at me, his jaw clenched so tight, he looked like he might crack a tooth. Mike sighed, “You are going to have to talk to me about what you went through, eventually.”
“I know I just need some time to settle back in to this lifestyle,” I said.
“I think you are settling in really well. We can get the ball rolling on getting you trained with guns again. I know dad never did, and I never taught you, I think you should learn,” Mike said
“Really? You are going to finally show me how to fire a gun,” I asked, shocked.
Mike nodded, “Yeah, I thought about it last night.”
“Good, I want to be trained to defend myself, like Queenie can. I know she can fight. But I want to know what to do and how so that I can protect myself,” I replied.
“Okay, I agree. I will teach you some. I am sure Phoenix will teach you some more when she arrives. Wolf is also good at teaching, he has been involved in tactical training of everyone here. So, maybe he can teach you something we can’t, as he will be staying close to you until we have dealt with this situation,” Mike smiled, as Carnage came over to us.
I nodded in agreement, as long as I get trained, I don’t care who trains me. Carnage and Mike helped us with getting our plates of breakfast over to the table, while I carried Zane over. I helped get him into the high chair, with natural ease. God, I wish I was a mother. But being an
auntie to this little prince will do.
“He really likes you,” Queenie commented.
“We have both always been good with kids,” I replied.
Mike chuckled, “Katie, you have always been the best with the kids here at the club. One day, with the right man, you will make a great mother.”
I stilled at that, because I should have already been a mother. I knew he was right. I took a deep breath, and turned to my food. “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to bring up you being a great
mother,” Mike whispered.
