324 Chapter 324 Stepped Over The Pieces
Blanche’s POV
I’d never blown up at the Jacob family like that before.
It was my first time standing up to them directly, right to their faces.
Nobody in the house expected it, and my sudden outburst left them all speechless.
Ophelia, sitting right next to me, jumped so hard she almost fell off her chair.
But once Ophelia got over her shock, she slammed her bowl down and shot me a deadly glare. “Obviously! With Zain gone, why are you even bothering to stick around? Do you think you deserve to keep breathing?”
I didn’t get mad–instead, I stared her down, too fed up to hide what I was thinking.
After a beat of silence, I let out a harsh laugh. “Ha, you’re right. With Zain gone, there’s no point wasting another second here.”
I pushed back from the table and headed for the door.
Tia sat next to Ophelia, her face tight with anxiety, already sensing trouble brewing.
But the moment I stood up, Tia thought to herself, ‘Great… this is definitely going to explode into a huge fight.’
It was New Year’s Eve–Tia just wanted peace for once.
She never imagined a family dinner would crash and burn like this, especially tonight.
I didn’t wait for Ophelia to respond–before she could even get a word out, Donovan snatched up a bowl and hurled it at my feet with pure rage.
The bowl shattered with a thunderous crash, pieces flying around my shoes as greasy mess splashed up my legs.
I stopped dead, staring down at the wreckage scattered across the floor. Behind me, Donovan’s voice cut through the air, ice–cold and threatening. “You walk out that door tonight, don’t even think about coming back. The Jacob family doesn’t want some ungrateful daughter–in–law like you.”
I actually found it funny. I let out a sharp laugh. “Perfect. That works out great for me.”

I didn’t even turn around when I said it, but the contempt dripping from my voice made it crystal clear what I thought of everyone in that room.
I didn’t slow down–just stepped over the broken pieces and kept walking,
But then Oswald, who’d been quiet this whole time, suddenly called out. “Blanche…”
His voice still had that familiar gentleness, and when he said my name, it sounded as
warm as always.
But ever since that procedure, I’d stopped hoping for anything from the Jacob family.
Oswald had always treated me well, and he’d worked hard to bring Zain and me together.
But looking back now, I realized–hadn’t he always had his own motives too?
No matter how nice he was to me, Zain always came first.
I didn’t really blame Oswald for it–I just thought this whole family was heartless.
Still, when Oswald called out, I gave a quiet, “Mm.”
Hearing my response, Oswald said gently, “Just for me, stay tonight and celebrate New Year’s Eve with us.”
I went silent.
After a long moment, I finally turned back to Oswald. My expression was blank, but my eyes were dark with disappointment. “Grandpa, Happy New Year–I guess I’ll say it early. But we’re not really family in the end. Everything you’ve done for me–I remember all of it. The pain too. I won’t forget that either.”
I spun around and walked away.
Oswald looked like he wanted to say more, but Donovan cut him off. “Dad, let’s just eat. After dinner, we can play chess.”
Ophelia chimed in, “Right, Dad, Blanche’s nothing but trouble–don’t waste your energy on her. Just let her leave. The Jacob family can survive perfectly fine without her.”
Oswald stayed quiet, but his face darkened, clearly upset.
Tia watched me leaving and wanted to call out, to ask me to stay. But she hesitated, and in the end, stayed silent.

The Jacob family continued their dinner after Blanche left. Oswald picked at his food, clearly troubled by what had just transpired. The atmosphere remained tense despite Donovan and Ophelia’s attempts to carry on as normal.
Tia kept glancing toward the door, wondering if she should have tried harder to make Blanche stay.
Blanche’s POV
I knew all too well–staying with the Jacob family always meant swallowing my pride and dealing with constant letdowns.
The moment I stepped outside Jacob Manor, I could finally taste freedom. All the stress and pressure I’d been carrying just evaporated instantly.
I took a deep breath, feeling like I could actually breathe again, my mood suddenly getting lighter.
Jacob Manor was so isolated that once I reached the main road, I couldn’t spot a single car–or even another person.
I walked down that deserted road, feeling kind of lost, wondering where I was supposed to go next.
‘Should I head back to the Callum now?‘ I wondered.
But going back wasn’t really possible. If the Callum discovered what happened tonight, they’d just end up worrying about me.
It was New Year’s Eve–I didn’t want everyone staying up stressed because of me.
There was a bench along the roadside, and almost without thinking, I wandered over and sat down.
I sat there and pulled out my phone, opening WhatsApp.
Amber had flooded my messages with photos and videos–clips of Camila spinning through a dance, shots of the Callum around their holiday meal.
As I scrolled through them, my eyes got watery and tears started streaming down, each one falling like beads from a broken necklace.

I tried to stop them, but no matter how hard I fought, I just couldn’t.
Besides Camila’s videos, Tia had also sent one–Carry dancing.
In the video, Carry had her makeup done and was wearing that adorable little kindergarten costume, looking precious and so innocent.
Her technique wasn’t perfect, but she never skipped a beat–she made sure to hit every single move, no matter what.
Watching Carry on the screen, I felt a sudden, sharp ache in my chest.
Thinking about how my once sweet little girl had turned into someone I barely recognized anymore, my heart broke.
But no matter how much it hurt, there was nothing I could do to fix it.
After watching Carry’s dance video over and over, I quietly hit save, like I was holding onto a tiny bit of warmth from my shattered world.
Just as I finished saving it, I looked up and saw a car stop right in front of me.
I frowned, then the driver’s door opened.
A woman got out, and when I saw it was Lucia, I froze for a second in shock. “Aunt Lucia?” I asked, my voice full of confusion.
Lucia walked over and stood in front of me, leaning down with narrowed eyes as she really studied my face. After a moment, she tilted her head, sounding genuinely puzzled. “Were you crying, sweetheart?”
At this, I quickly wiped at my tears, hoping Lucia hadn’t seen how upset I was.
Seeing my reaction, Lucia immediately pulled out a tissue and offered it, her voice soft with worry. “Did someone hurt you? Did something upset you?”
I didn’t want to admit it, so I just shook my head, my answer barely a whisper. “No.”
Lucia saw right through my lie. She leaned closer and lowered her voice. “If you’re coming from this direction, then you obviously just left the Jacob family. Honestly, I’m not surprised they gave you trouble. Zain’s mother? She’s basically the drama queen of our social circle–nobody causes problems like she does.”
Now that Lucia had basically called me out, I stayed quiet and didn’t deny it.
Just then, Lucia reached out and gently wrapped my cold fingers in her warm ones.
