Alistair was entirely unmoved by Celia's explanation, his tone remaining as flat as ever. "A man who raised a son like that is hardly a man of upstanding moral character."
Celia lowered her head, looking slightly uncomfortable. "I know, but Mr. Forrester really was very kind to me..."
"What exactly are you asking for?" Alistair demanded.
The girl spoke softly, "Could you please... give the Forrester Group a way out?"
Celia swore to herself that the moment this crisis blew over, she would liquidate all her assets in the Forrester Group as fast as humanly possible!
After that, whether the company lived or died was none of her business!
But right now, until her money was safely extracted, the Forrester Group absolutely could not go bankrupt.
A sudden wave of irritation flared in Alistair's chest.
The temperature in his eyes plummeted.
Every word out of her mouth was for the Forrester Group, for Franklin Forrester.
And it made him inexplicably furious.
She had called the son *Talbot*.
Couldn't she just use his full name?
She spoke of him as if they were some inseparable pair of lovers.
"Fine," Alistair said, barely recognizing the sound of his own voice.
He met the girl's surprised gaze; she clearly hadn't expected him to agree so easily.
"Really?" Celia's eyes lit up, as if she could already see her millions waving at her!
"But I will pressure Franklin to groom his illegitimate son to take over the Forrester Group," Alistair stated calmly, staring down at her.
A flicker of calculation crossed Celia's eyes.
She was well aware of Franklin's wandering eye and the fact that he had several illegitimate children.
It was a common occurrence among wealthy families, and Talbot knew it too. As long as it was kept out of the public eye, everyone turned a blind eye.
The unspoken rule of high society was that illegitimate children took their hush money and stayed quiet, never dreaming of claiming their birthright.
Alistair narrowed his eyes. Without another word, he turned and walked out of the office.
Celia wasn't worried that he would go back on his word. Once he made a promise, he always followed through.
With her mission accomplished, Celia took the elevator back down to her desk.
By the time she arrived, the new project manager she had formally "met" earlier was already settled in.
After introducing himself to the staff, he immediately began pushing the project forward.
With that idiot Larry out of the picture, Celia had an incredibly relaxing day at the Zucker Corporation.
The senior staff were actually quite nice to her. Previously, because they had families and couldn't afford to quit, they had been too afraid to get close to her.
Now that Larry was behind bars, perhaps out of guilt, the veteran employees were exceptionally friendly.
It wasn't until she got off work that evening that Celia received a text message from Talbot Forrester.
Talbot: [Find a time. We're getting engaged.]
