The Platonic Trap novel Chapter 93

In the executive conference room, aside from the man sitting at the head of the table, everyone's phone was on airplane mode or turned off.

So when a faint vibrating sound echoed through the room, everyone looked around for the source.

Alistair's phone was placed face down on the conference table.

When the phone rang, his calm gaze drifted to the device first, but he didn't move.

Ken Linden, standing to the side, noticed it too. He glanced at the phone, then at Alistair.

Although Mr. Zucker kept his phone on during meetings, very few people actually called him directly.

First, everyone around him knew that if they had official business or partnership inquiries, they were supposed to go through his assistant. No one would dare interrupt him so presumptuously.

Another reason was that very few people actually knew his private number. If someone called him directly, it was assumed to be an incredibly urgent matter.

The last time a call came straight through to Mr. Zucker's private number, it was because a major foreign VIP had an issue at the border and needed Alistair's immediate assistance and clearance documents.

Ken had no idea what this call could be about.

—He had been rushed off his feet lately and truly hadn't heard of any major crises involving important figures.

In the conference room, every executive's eyes were fixed on the unexpectedly ringing phone.

Alistair didn't say a word. He just picked up the phone.

Upon seeing the caller ID, he paused for a brief second before answering the call.

He brought the phone to his ear.

"Hello? Uncle Alistair?"

On the other end of the line, the young woman's voice was soft, calling him tentatively.

Alistair lowered his eyes. Holding the phone in his left hand, he picked up a fountain pen with his right and began writing something on a piece of paper.

Thank goodness, it was Ms. Stafford. It seemed there was no major crisis after all.

When Alistair stood up, he handed the paper he had just written on to Ken.

Ken took the paper, and without lingering, Alistair walked out of the conference room.

"Everyone, Mr. Zucker has summarized the data from the recent reports and provided a method for correction," Ken said, snapping a photo of the paper and sending it to the executive group chat, his tone serious. "Please revise and organize your reports according to Mr. Zucker's requirements. He expects to see the final versions before tonight."

So Mr. Zucker had been writing out specific solutions while on the phone just now?

Looking at the correction methods detailed down to every last regulation, the executives didn't dare utter a single word of complaint.

One of the braver executives, knowing Ken had a relatively good temper, waited until Mr. Zucker was far enough away and whispered, "Ken, who was Mr. Zucker on the phone with?"

Ken shot him a sharp look, and the room instantly fell dead silent.

"That is Mr. Zucker's private matter. Just focus on doing your jobs."
