“And if I refuse to attend?
“Then we vote in your absence. And I promise you won’t like the result.” He pauses. “Ten AM. Be there.”
The line goes dead.
I set down the phone. Everyone is staring at me. They heard. Werewolf hearing mearst the entire room heard both sides of the conversation.
“High Council.” Marcus says what everyone is thinking. “They know about Kelvin. About the intel. About everything
“How?” Clara looks around. “We’ve been careful. No communications outside the safe house. How do they know?”
“Someone told them.” I scan the room. Looking for guilt. For nervousness. For any sign of who the traitor might be. “Someone in this room contacted the Council and informed them of everything.”
Tension spikes. Wolves looking at each other. Suspicion spreading like poison.
“Or.” Freya speaks up. “The Council has been monitoring Asher’s communications. Saw Kelvin and the others defect. Put two and two together. They’re the High Council. They have resources we don’t.”
She’s right. Doesn’t have to be a traitor. Could just be Council surveillance.
But still. The timing is suspicious.
“Regardless of how they know. They’ve summoned us. Tomorrow morning. Freya and I have to appear.” I look around the rable. “Marcus. You’re in charge while we’re gone. Clara. You’re second. If something happens to us…
