Larissa glanced at Lucas, then looked back at Brad. She let out a short, cold laugh. “Apologize?”

Brad smirked. “You’ve got quite a temper, sweetheart. But since you’re so pretty, I’ve changed my mind.”

He lifted his chin proudly.

“If you fix my hand and agree to be my girlfriend, I’ll let this go.”

He sounded full of himself.

“Maybe you don’t know who I am. My family just signed a long–term deal with Everwell Pharma. You know Everwell Pharma, right? It’s one of the fastest–growing companies in the world. It’s already in the global top ten by market value.

“As long as that partnership lasts, my family will rise with it. Everwell Pharma has already opened a branch here in Eldercrown. Soon, the headquarters will move here too. It won’t be long before the Sutton family becomes one of the top families in the city.

“A girl like you shouldn’t waste your looks on a loser like Lucas. But if you stay with me, I’ll make sure you live the good life.”

Larissa had thought he might have some powerful background.

Instead, he was bragging about a small company that only mattered because of the very corporation she had built. And now he was standing in front of her, acting important.

“You want to date me?” she said coolly. “Live the good life?”

She looked at him from head to toe.

“Who do you think you are? Sutton Group is a small company, and it’s not even yours. And you dare to show off in front of me?”

Her voice turned colder.

“I’ll give you one last chance. You better apologize to Lucas now. If you do, we’ll end this here. If you refuse, the consequences won’t be something you can handle.”

Brad froze for a second. Then he burst out laughing.

“Brad, you’ve gone too far,” Lucas said, his face pale. “Weren’t we friends once? Why are you doing this to me now?”

“Friends?” Brad looked at him with open contempt. “Who the hell is your friend? What makes you think someone like you can be friends with me?”

He crossed his arms, speaking as if he were above them all.

“You come from a branch family that got cast aside. You and your parents have fallen so low. What right do you have to call yourself my friend?

“To be honest, thinking about how I used to hang out with you makes me sick. I was only friends with you because you were a Bennetts. Now that you’re useless to me, we’re not friends anymore.”

One of the boys added with a sneer, “You want to be friends with Brad? Know your place.”

“This is the funniest joke I’ve heard all year!” one of the lackeys said with a sneer. “You really have no idea about your place. Still dreaming, huh? Who do you think you are? What makes you think you’re good enough to be Brad’s friend?”

The lackeys looked at Alvin and laughed at him openly.
