Chapter 221 Number One Car Racer

“How did you end up being the nice one in your family?” Duchess teased. “I never thought I’d see the day you’d go out of your way to win your brother’s favor.”
Larissa hadn’t expected that either.
If Duchess hadn’t said it out loud, she might not have noticed.
She cleared her throat, slightly embarrassed. “You’re overthinking it. Watch the road.”
As they talked, the sports car pulled up in front of the biggest racing club in Moblos.
They got out and walked toward the entrance.
Before they could step inside, two security guards blocked their way.
“This is a members–only club,” one of them said. “Do you have a membership?”
Duchess calmly pulled out a black–and–gold card. “Take a closer look.”
The guard examined the card carefully. His attitude changed at once. “Welcome. Please go in.”
The two of them walked inside.
‘I didn’t know you were a regular here,” Larissa said. “You must’ve spent a lot of money.”
Duchess scratched the back of her head awkwardly.
‘You left a deep scar on my pride,” she admitted. “I love racing. But every time I raced you, you crushed me without even trying. After losing to you, I had to find other people to race just to let off steam. I’ve trained this hard because one day, I want to beat the Racing Queen.”
‘Have you met Carter?” Larissa asked. “He’s a good racer too.”
“Maybe,” Duchess said with a shrug. “If I didn’t know him before, I’ll know him soon enough. I finally get to race you again. This time, I want a rematch.”
She led the way confidently.
Larissa rubbed her nose. “You want to beat me that badly?”
“Of course,” Duchess said seriously. “Who wouldn’t want to defeat Sol? The number one international racer. You’re the standard everyone measures themselves against. You’re every racer’s idol. Maybe you’re the only one who doesn’t care about that title.”
Larissa nodded.
“Fine. Since you’re so serious, I’ll agree. But if you lose again, you’re not allowed to challenge me for three years.”
Duchess laughed. “Deal.”

“Shouldn’t you call your brother first?” Duchess reminded her.
They stepped deeper into the club. It was loud and lively. A crowd had gathered around the racing simulators.
Duchess went straight to a staff member. “Excuse me, is there a racer here named Carter Sowle?”
Larissa looked around the crowd, hoping to spot him first.
The staff member pointed toward the track. “If he’s a racer, there’s a competition today. He should be over there.”
Larissa followed the direction. On the track sat a bright red race car.
Beside it, wiping it down carefully, was Carter.
She recognized him at once. The Sowle brothers were all good–looking.
Carter might not be as handsome as Andrew, but he had something fierce about him. Like a wolf ready to strike.
The car beside him was worth about 500 million dollars. It suited his status perfectly.
Normally, club staff handled car maintenance.
She hadn’t expected Carter to care so much that he cleaned it himself, right before a race.
Her heart beat a little faster. She grabbed Duchess’s arm and hurried toward the track.
Suddenly, someone walked over with a bucket of water and dumped it right onto the freshly cleaned side of the car. Water splashed everywhere.
“Oh no, Carter, sorry about that,” the man said in a mocking tone. “Looks like you’ll have to wipe it all over again.
“You’ve been on this team almost three years, and you’re still just a reserve driver. All you do is maintain our cars. I really don’t know why the boss keeps someone like you around.”
He glanced at the expensive car. “You don’t even own a race car yourself. Something this pricey? I bet you’ve never even seen one up close before.”
