Chapter 25 Do You Think I Care?

“Isn’t this my charming little sister, Larissa? Still hanging around campus after everything that’s happened?
“You’ve got some nerve, don’t you? Hanging onto Mr. Sowle as his mistress
“You really have no shame. I bet this isn’t even the first time you’ve done something like this. You’re unbelievable.
“If you want to keep staying here, you’d better play by my rules. Go grab me lunch from the cafeteria.
Larissa lifted her gaze, her eyes cold. “Julia, what makes you think I’m someone you can mess with?”
She raised her hand and slapped Julia.
Smack!
The sharp crack of that slap echoed, and everyone nearby just froze.
People couldn’t believe Larissa had actually slapped Julia.
Julia was one of Marcrest High’s star students, always landing in the top ten every semester.
She was pretty much a shoo–in for the top universities in Eldercrown.
And she was good at pretty much everything–music, chess, sports, painting–you name it. Half the school practically idolized her.
Larissa, in contrast, was just a disgraced ex–heiress thrown out by the Turners. She’d only made it into Marcrest High through backdoor connections.
She barely finished elementary school and had nothing going for her. How could she possibly have the guts to hit Julia, and in front of everyone?
The whole place went dead silent for several minutes.
“Larissa, are you out of your mind? Did you really just slap me?”
Julia was stunned, her cheek burning as she finally realized what had happened.
She shot Larissa a furious glare.
Larissa just shook out her hand, not bothered at all.
“Wow, you really are thick–skinned. My hand hurts just from slapping you.
“So what if I slapped you?
“Was one slap not enough? Want me to even things out on the other side?”
Julia was shaking with anger and raised her hand to strike back.

But before she could, Larissa caught her wrist and slapped her again.
That second slap felt way too satisfying.
If you’re capable of doing something, just do it. Don’t just whine about it. This is exactly how things should go.

“Julia, those two slaps are just the beginning. We’re nowhere near done. I’ll settle the rest with you later.”
Julia gritted her teeth, barely holding herself together.
Why did Larissa feel like a different person now?
No matter what Julia did before, Larissa never fought back.
But now she actually dared to hit her.
She used to just endure everything silently. She’d let Julia hit her, yell at her, never putting up a fight. Now, that old, timid Larissa was gone.
Julia knew exactly what Larissa cared about most, and she knew just how to hit where it hurt.
“Larissa, you really don’t care if Dad, Harlan, and the rest of the family started hating you for this?”
Larissa let out a cold laugh, totally unfazed.
“You think I care if they hate me?
“Julia, did you forget? The Turners already kicked me out. Their opinions mean nothing to me now.”
She’d already been given a second chance at life. There was no way she’d let people who’d hurt her get to her again.
Julia hadn’t expected Larissa to be so indifferent. Her face darkened, but she quickly shifted tactics.
“Even so, the Turners raised you. If Dad and our brothers heard you talking like this, they’d be heartbroken.
“You really don’t care about them at all?
“Dad said if you’re willing to apologize, admit you were wrong, and let me slap you twice, he’ll let you back
into the Turners.
“Didn’t you stirred up all this drama just because you want Dad to take you back?”
Julia’s tone was dripping with contempt, acting like she was so far above it all.
Larissa was a joke. She really had stayed with the Turners for the sake of family, but what did that ever get
her?
Julia, on the other hand, was different.
She never wanted love or family–just money.

Who cares about family, when you can have money that never runs out?
Larissa really is pathetic. It’s actually sad how clueless she is.
