“What I do with him is none of your business,” Larissa said coldly. “You should worry about yourself instead. Stop trailing after Floria like a lapdog. Everyone can see you’re doing it for her. Don’t you realize how pathetic you look?”
Terry let out an angry laugh.
“I was trying to be nice here,” he said, his voice turning sharp. “But if you keep talking to me like that, I can make sure you won’t be able to stay in Marcrest.”
Larissa had hit a nerve, and his face darkened at once.
He hadn’t expected such a young girl to have such a vicious mouth. She looked harmless, but she spoke without the slightest fear. Standing in front of him, she didn’t seem intimidated at all.
Where had she gotten that kind of nerve?
And this was the kind of person Alvin liked?
Weak? Timid?
Larissa shot him a mocking look. This idiot was just like he had been in her last life–always looking for trouble with her.
‘Oh, really? Bring it on,” she said.
Then she turned and walked straight toward the car.
Terry stared at her back, his fists clenching.
Larissa didn’t take him seriously.
She had ignored him completely.
She knew exactly who he was, but she still dared to treat him that way.
He had earned his rank through real military service and had become the youngest colonel in the army with a future brighter than most. On top of that, he was a Wagners. Everywhere he went, people treated him with respect. No one dared cross him.
Yet Larissa had brushed off his warning as if it meant nothing.
No one had ever spoken to him like that before.
Fine. If she refused to listen, he would show her what he could do.
Terry pulled out his phone and ordered someone to investigate Larissa.
He wanted to know what gave this arrogant girl the confidence to challenge him.
The report came back quickly.

As Terry read through it, his brows slowly drew together.
Larissa Sowle. The youngest daughter the Sowles had recently found.
So, this girl was a Sowles.
She had once been the Turners‘ adopted child. Before the age of five, she had lived in an orphanage. At twelve, the Turners had sent her to Ravenmind Island. Only a year ago, she made her way back to them, only to depart six months later due to a false charge. After that, she went back to the Sowles.
Her grades were excellent. She had already received an offer from Eldercrown University.
She had also taken first place in the Global Academic Competition.
And through all of it, she had barely any contact with Alvin.
Had Floria gotten it wrong?
Or was Larissa simply very good at hiding her real intentions?
Either way, it looked like he needed to stay in Marcrest a few more days.
Just then, his phone rang.
“Terry, I heard you’re in Marcrest,” said a stern voice on the other end.
Terry straightened at once, his expression sharpening.
“Yes, sir. Awaiting orders.”
“There’s an important mission for you. The file has already been sent to your email. Read it carefully.
“This will be a difficult operation,” the man continued, “but I believe you can handle it. All of Marcrest’s police force will cooperate with you.”
Terry understood the weight of those words.
“Yes, sir. I won’t fail.”
As soon as the call ended, he opened the email and scanned the mission details.
It was about an international crime ring smuggling valuable artifacts, and the file was packed with
classified information.
This was no small case.
They had to stop the deal before the artifacts disappeared into the black market.
Terry immediately contacted Ivor Binder, chief of the Marcrest Police Department.
Ivor had already received notice and understood how serious the situation was. The two arranged to meet at the station.

“We need to move fast,” Ivor said when they met. “We can’t let those artifacts fall into criminal hands.”
He looked at Terry seriously.
“This mission is urgent and difficult. Colonel Wagner, got any ideas?”
