He didn’t get to finish.
A sharp slap cut him off mid–sentence.

Miles froze, stunned. Nina’s hand was still raised.
Her eyes were icy, edged with something dangerous. “Say that again.”
“You hit me?”

No woman had ever struck him before. Rage surged through him, and he started to swing back
But Caleb stepped in, pulling Nina behind him. He let out a cold laugh. “Well, if it isn’t Miles. Didn’t I knock your teeth out the last time? And you’ve still got the nerve to show your face in front of Nina? Didn’t lose enough teeth back then?”
The moment Miles saw Caleb, the memory of that missing tooth resurfaced. His anger faltered, replaced by resentment. In the end, he could only grab his girlfriend and throw out a threat. “Just you wait!”
With that, he dragged her out of the store.
Caleb gave a whistle. “I’ll be waiting.”
Nina glanced at him. “Stay away from people like that. The Huntingtons aren’t what they were three years ago–they’ve got some standing in Linholt now.”
“Afraid of him?” Caleb scoffed. “The Huntington family isn’t even fit to shine the Rhodes family’s shoes.”
He clapped Nina on the shoulder like an old buddy. “You’ve got my back at a time like this- I’m seriously touched.”
“You bought me a gift. Standing up for you is the least I can do,” Nina said. “Come on. There’s a show tomorrow–we shouldn’t miss it.”
One after the other, they walked out of the boutique.
Meanwhile, the more Miles thought about it, the angrier he got. As soon as he he slammed his hand against the steering wheel.

Caleb again. Why did that guy have to show up everywhere?
“Miles, don’t be upset… his girlfriend tried to soothe him, reaching for his arm.
He shook her off impatiently. “Get off me!”

He’d had his eye on Nina for a long time. Now that he’d finally run into her, there was no way he was letting it go that easily.
Just then, his phone rang. Seeing it was his mother, he picked up right away, his tone still sharp. “Mom, what is it?”
“Miles, you’re coming with me to a birthday banquet tomorrow. Make sure you prepare properly–do your best to catch the Tann family’s daughter’s eye.”
“The Tann family’s daughter?”
“That’s right. Nina’s back in the country. If the Huntington family wants to move up, we can’t do it without the Tanns‘ support. So behave yourself and make a good impression on Ms.
Tann.”
“Crash-!”
Inside the Mercer bedroom, Katrina was in a full–blown rage, smashing anything she could get her hands on.
Hearing the commotion, Cecilia rushed over to Katrina and Chase’s room. The place was a disaster–expensive cosmetics and jewelry scattered everywhere as Katrina tore through the
room.
“Oh, for heaven’s sake! What now?” Cecilia snapped. “Haven’t you caused enough scenes these past few days? Not a single day of peace!”
She had no idea what Katrina was so worked up about.
Katrina stormed up to her, thrusting her phone forward. “Cecilia, take a look! This is your precious son! Do you see what he’s been doing out there? Going to nightclubs to pick up women! He’s made a complete fool of me in front of all those society wives!”
