Cecilia’s temper flared instantly. “What did you just say? You think your own husband would do something like that? Have you lost your mind? My son has everything going for him–he can have any woman he wants. Why would he need to go after Nina?”

Katrina let out a cold laugh. “Your son may be attractive, but he’s also married with a child. Even if Nina made the first move, if Chase didn’t want it, nothing would’ve happened.”

“You-! What kind of wife are you? Talking about your husband like that!”

Cecilia raised her hand as if to strike her, but just then, Chase came down the stairs.

His gaze briefly landed on Katrina, but he didn’t ask where she’d been the night before.

Seeing him head for the door, Cecilia called out, “Chase, where are you going?”

“Work.”

He didn’t spare Katrina a second glance. After that single, curt word, he walked straight out the door.

Chase’s cold indifference left Katrina feeling stifled.

Back when they were first together, he’d always had something sweet to say, and he went along with whatever she wanted. But after she gave birth to Wilder, things clearly changed. Their relationship cooled, and even sharing a bed became rare.

Now that Nina was back, his attention was completely on her.

Katrina bit her lip.

She couldn’t let this go on–sooner or later, Nina would take him away. She needed to do something.

That same day, Katrina went to a lingerie store at the mall to pick out a few new pieces.

After they got married, even intimacy had started to feel routine. Chase had always liked a bit of excitement, but after having a child, she’d lost the energy to keep up with him.

Across the mall, Charlotte nudged Nina. “Nina, isn’t that Katrina? What’s she buying over there?”

She sounded thrilled, like she’d stumbled onto something juicy.

Nina followed her gaze.

Katrina was inside a lingerie shop, holding up a red lace nightgown–something clearly meant for seduction between a couple.

Charlotte raised her brows. “I noticed at the class reunion that Chase was pretty cold toward her. I didn’t think it had gotten to the point where she needed something like that.”

Nina smiled faintly. “Come on. Let’s take a look.”

“Let’s go.”

Charlotte pulled Nina along, and they walked into the store as if by chance.

The moment Katrina looked up and saw Nina, she quickly set the nightgown back down.

“What a coincidence,” Charlotte said deliberately. “Katrina, shopping for lingerie too?”

“I’m just browsing,” Katrina replied, trying to keep them from noticing what she’d been holding.

She’d always made a point of telling people how attentive and devoted Chase was. If anyone found out he’d long since lost interest in her, how could she hold her head up?

“Just browsing? Oh, this nightgown’s gorgeous–although…” Charlotte arched a knowing brow.

Katrina brushed it off. “Chase likes me in red. You wouldn’t understand–you’re not married. There are certain… things between husband and wife.”
