Cecilia glanced sharply at Caleb beside her. “I don’t recall inviting you tonight, Mr. Rhodes. You clearly lack proper upbringing. Word has it your father scolded you not long ago, yet you still act so rude. Don’t you know you ought not crash a party without an invitation?”

Caleb never cared about such formal stuff, and he paid no mind to her attitude. “I’ve always been this casual. I only came along with Nina. You can take it up with her if you’re upset. I don’t mind looking unpolished at all.”

Cecilia was left lost for words. She dared not argue openly in front of Nina. Katrina knew Caleb held a prominent status, and she feared offending the entire Rhodes family, so she quickly stepped in to ease the awkward vibe.

“Cecilia, don’t be so harsh on him. I know you hoped Nina would join our family, that’s why you’re being cold towards him. After all, he is the heir of the Rhodes family.”

Her playful remark easily implied something romantic between Nina and Caleb. Caleb frowned at once. “Mrs. Katrina Mercer, don’t spread such groundless rumors. Stop talking about this, or everyone will feel uncomfortable.”

Katrina just smiled and said nothing more. Now that the Mercer Group had sealed a partnership with the Beaumont Group, every guest present would show them respect. As Chase’s wife, she had no reason to fear Caleb in the slightest.

Soon after, Chase walked down the stairs. Dressed neatly in a suit and tie, he looked every bit a skilled business man, totally different from his worn-out look the day before.
