“No need for that. Even if Nina runs short of funds, my family can step up and invest in her project.”
Caleb spoke boldly, yet he knew deep down his family would never agree to put money into Nina’s business. In their eyes, Nina was the one who led him astray. They had always hoped he would cut all ties with her. Little did they know, it was actually Caleb who had always dragged Nina into trouble instead.
“I see. I guess I worried for nothing then.” Audrey smiled politely. “You’re so young yet so capable, Ms. Tann. You’re bound to have an extremely bright future ahead.”
Audrey kept stealing glances at Jensen the whole time. He had not lifted his eyes once since earlier. He had cut his steak evenly into eight neat pieces, yet he had not taken a single bite.
“Jensen, I didn’t expect you still remember I hate cutting my own steak. Audrey leaned close to him softly. “Aren’t you going to feed me a bite?”
Caleb rolled his eyes openly at her overly pretentious manner.
Jensen ignored her words and spoke plainly, “Excuse me, I need to head to the restroom.”
Seeing him leave alone, Audrey also put down her tableware. “Pardon me, I’m going too.” She quietly followed right behind him.
Nina kept eating her food calmly. Unable to stay seated any longer, Caleb finally spoke up.
“This dinner is such a drag. You’ve already said everything you needed to. Let me drive you home right now.”
He had no appetite at all and pulled Nina straight up from her seat.
Jensen and Audrey happened to walk back just in time to witness this scene. Audrey instantly linked her arm through Jensen’s and spoke gently.
“It’s getting pretty late. Ms. Tann has strict family rules, so she really should head home now. Shall we leave too, Jensen?”
Nina simply glanced briefly at their linked arms then looked away. She understood Audrey wanted to flaunt their relationship, yet she thought it was totally unnecessary. Apart from brief encounters back in high school, she and Jensen were never childhood sweethearts, nor had they ever held romantic feelings for each other.

“Let’s go too, Caleb.”
“Got it, I’ll go get the car ready.”
Before leaving, Caleb shot them both a disdainful look.

The moment Jensen watched Nina get into Caleb’s car and drive off, he pulled his arm free from Audrey’s grasp without hesitation. His tone turned icy cold.
“I didn’t appreciate those little tricks you pulled tonight.”
“Jensen, I am your fiancée after all. I just didn’t want others to think you dislike me…”
“I held back and didn’t embarrass you in public only because of your status as my fiancée. Don’t push your luck, or things will be different next time.”
He did not spare her a single glance. Right away he dialed Kent and gave a cold order.
“Come pick up Ms. Beaumont from Moris Restaurant and send her home.”
“Understood, sir.”
Panicked at being left behind alone, Audrey quickly grabbed hold of his arm. “Jensen, are you really going to leave me here all by myself?”
“You are a fully independent adult woman. My secretary will arrive in five minutes to take you home. Please behave yourself properly.”
Jensen pulled his arm away firmly and got into his car alone.
Staring at his ruthless departing figure, Audrey clenched her fists tightly in frustration. She could not help feeling confused and hurt. Why does Jensen always keep me at such a distance? Does he not know how deeply I love him?
Inside his car, Jensen drove steadily toward the Tann Villa. Even though Caleb’s car was nowhere in sight on the road ahead, old memories slowly flooded his mind.
He recalled the day the Beaumont family had visited the Grey Villa. Everything had seemed perfectly normal. That night, he had drunk more alcohol than he could handle and went straight back to his room to rest. When he woke up again, all he could hear beside him was Audrey’s soft weeping.
