Kent thought the boss of that firm must have lost her mind.

This was no small sum.

It was a full billion dollars.

Few people in the whole of Linholt could come up with such a huge amount all at once.

Yet she really turned it down flat out.

Jensen lowered his gaze and did not utter a single word.

Seeing him stay dead silent, Kent could not help speaking up.

“Sir, are you feeling unwell?”

Jensen had sat in his office all day long without saying a word. He looked totally lost in thought and even stayed unresponsive during meetings.

Everyone noticed how off he was acting, and Kent was no exception.

Jensen shook his head gently. “I’m fine.”

“But you look really pale, sir.”

Kent paused for a moment then ventured a question.

“Is this all because of Ms. Tann?”

No matter what tough troubles Jensen had faced before, he had never backed down, nor had he ever looked so dispirited. Yet whenever things involved Nina, he could never keep his cool.

Jensen checked the time and saw it was already off-hours.

“Get the car ready. I’m heading over to the Tann Villa.”

“Y-yes, sir.”.

Inside the house, Esther frowned slightly the moment she saw Jensen walk in carrying piles of nourishing gift boxes.

“You silly boy, why do you keep bringing so many things over? Come on in quickly.”

“Mrs. Tann, is Nina home?”

“Nina? She headed for the airport just a while ago.”

Jensen’s heart tightened sharply the second he heard that. He asked anxiously, “Is she going abroad?”

“Not overseas. She said she’s off to Halmont to hang out with a friend.” Esther looked confused. “Didn’t she tell you about it? I thought she knew you stay in Halmont and would ask you for fun spots there ahead of time.”

“With a friend?”

“That’s right.” Esther chatted casually. “I was just saying to Marvin that our girl must have found herself a boyfriend. I know all her usual pals well enough. Going away for seven or eight days straight is definitely for a romantic getaway.”

These words weighed heavily on Jensen’s heart.

Esther went on, “You know plenty of people over in Halmont. Keep an eye out for her for me, alright? We’d feel much more at ease knowing who she’s spending time with.”

“Mrs. Tann, I still have some matters to attend to. I’ll take my leave now.”

Jensen turned around and left in a hurry.

“Take care on your way back!” Esther called out after him, shaking her head in puzzlement.

Outside the villa, Kent was surprised to see him come out so soon.

“Is Ms. Tann not at home, sir?”

“Book me a flight back to Halmont, the earliest one possible.”

“I’m afraid all evening flights are fully booked already…”

“Then get me the very first flight tomorrow morning. I need to head back right away.”

Kent assumed something urgent had happened in Halmont and quickly pulled out his phone to confirm the tickets.

Jensen kept replaying Esther’s words in his mind, feeling utterly restless.

He knew every single friend Nina had made during her years abroad.

Even when he was not staying overseas himself, he kept track of everything going on with her school life. Every year, he would spare time to fly over, walk around her campus and see all the places she used to frequent. Even just catching a distant glimpse of her daily life was enough to satisfy him back then.

Nina was rather reserved by nature. Besides Caleb, she barely had any other close friends back in school.

He simply refused to believe she would travel all the way to Halmont and stay there for nearly a week just to hang out with some random friend.

There was definitely something fishy going on here.

Meanwhile, Audrey had arrived at the Grey Group with a homemade dinner bento specially prepared for Jensen.

She had just stepped into the building when she caught several staff members whispering among themselves.
