Kent stumbled out of the wrecked car, completely powerless to fight back. The man spoke coldly. “If you want her safe, tell Jensen to come alone.”
He watched the strangers drive away, then collapsed to the ground from dizziness. Struggling to stay conscious, he dialed Jensen’s number weakly. “Sir… Ms. Tann has been taken away!”
Late into the night, Nina slowly opened her eyes. She found herself lying on a soft bed. The ceiling was dull gray, and dim lamplight cast an intimate hazy atmosphere across the room.
She massaged her temples. She still remembered the car crash before she blacked out, and how a man had slung her over his shoulder.
“You’re awake?”
A familiar voice rang out beside her ear.
Nina snapped back to her senses and turned her head, spotting Julian sitting right next to her bed.
“Was it you?” she frowned in shock.
“Indeed. Surprised?”
Julian lit a cigarette and leaned back against the sofa. “I hope you’ll cooperate with me from now on. Rest assured, you won’t get hurt.”
“You…
“There’s no need for you to test how much I mean to Jensen,” Nina said calmly. “He will definitely come, but only to repay my family’s old favor, nothing more.”
“We shall see about that,” Julian replied. “Would he really risk his own life just to repay a kindness?”
“Risk his life? What exactly are you planning to do?” Nina instantly grew alert.
“Jensen never told you what business my family runs, did he? It’s better he didn’t. Don’t think he’s completely clean either; his hands are far from spotless.”
His vague words were easy enough for Nina to understand. She knew well from her past life that Jensen had connections in both legitimate and underground circles, an open secret within their social circle that no one dared speak of openly.

“You’d better think this through carefully,” Nina warned. “Crossing him is never a wise move.”
Right now Jensen still lacked enough power, but in a few years, he would grow formidable enough to defeat any enemy that stood against him.
Julian did not believe her words in the slightest. “Calm down. He’ll be here any minute now.”
Outside the secluded suburban villa belonging to the Beaumont family, Jensen sped over alone. The moment he stepped out of his car, Julian peeked out from behind the second- floor curtains.
“Look at that. He really rushed over all by himself just for you. His feelings for you are clearly far deeper than you claimed earlier.”
Nina’s heart raced wildly. She could not believe Jensen would come alone so recklessly. It was plainly an obvious trap, and coming without backup left him completely vulnerable,
Downstairs, Jensen wore a stern gloomy look, his tone icy cold. “Where is she?”
“She’s upstairs. Please wait a moment, Mr. Grey.” Jacob stood guard at the entrance.
“I’m afraid you’ll have to endure this for a while,” Julian said to Nina.
He took out adhesive tape and covered her mouth. Nina knitted her brows tightly and tried to break free, yet her hands and feet were already firmly tied fast.
“I cannot leave such a potential rival lingering around my sister’s future marriage,” Julian stated plainly. “If Jensen goes to extreme lengths for you today, we can proceed with our business deal, but I will have to get rid of you for good. If you mean nothing important to him, there will be no need for further cooperation, and I will send you straight back to Linholt. Do you understand?”
Nina realized she had severely underestimated Julian. He was utterly reckless and unhinged. Negotiating with a madman meant putting herself in the greatest danger.
Soon Jensen walked upstairs. His gaze fell immediately on Nina bound tight on the bed.
The bedroom was deathly quiet. Julian was extremely cautious; all curtains were fully drawn, all signals blocked, and only faint dim lights remained lit inside the room.
“You know exactly why I called you here, Jensen.”
