Chapter 236 Stepmother Shows Up Uninvited

“The price… must be sky-high, right? I’ve got 30 million. Is that enough?”

“Too much.”

“Too much?”

Nina froze.

A downtown location, two thousand square feet spread across two floors, a private yard and luxury finishes-how could 30 million be too much?

Jensen said, “Ten million’s enough. I need a quick sale.”

“…You’re not deliberately cutting me a break, are you?”

“And if I am? Would you take it?”

“In a heartbeat,” Nina replied. “Only a fool turns down a good deal-especially when it’s your deal. I’ve been your decoy, so it’s only fair you charge me less.”

“Such a sharp tongue.”

Jensen was behind the wheel, and it wasn’t long before he pulled up outside the Grey Villa.

He hit the brakes hard, and Nina nearly flew out of her seat.

“What was that for?”

“Someone’s here.”

“Who’s here?”

Nina followed his gaze and sure enough, several luxury cars were parked out front.

Jensen pushed open his door, and Nina unbuckled her seatbelt to get out with him.

The housekeeper who’d come to clean looked at Jensen awkwardly. “Mr. Grey, this…”

“What’s going on? I told you I wasn’t receiving guests.” Jensen’s voice turned cold.

The housekeeper hurried to say, “Sir, they’re not guests… It’s-it’s Mrs. Grey!”

Nina stiffened at the mention of Mrs. Grey.

Mrs. Grey?

That is Jensen’s…

She glanced at Jensen beside her. He said coldly, “Then show her out.”

“Jensen, that’s no way to talk. I’m still your mother. How can you turn me away?”

Ruth Sutton stepped out from the main gate. She was dressed head-to-toe in designer labels, dripping with expensive jewelry. She looked around forty, well-preserved and elegant.

Nina remembered this was Jensen’s stepmother, not his biological mother.

Jensen had been sent to the Mercer family in Linholt years ago because his father had married this woman. Manipulated by her, his father had forced him away.

But Ruth couldn’t have children, which was why Jensen had eventually been brought back to the Grey family.

And the Mercer family? It was his mother’s family.

Now Ruth’s eyes landed on Nina. She shot her a dismissive glance and said, “So this is the woman you dumped Audrey for?”

Nina’s gut dropped. Ruth had clearly misunderstood her relationship with Jensen.

Ruth walked over to Nina. Jensen immediately pulled her behind him, facing Ruth. “Do you want me to have you escorted out, or thrown out?”

“Jensen Grey, I’m still your mother, I hold the Grey Group’s stock. I’m the matriarch here. Your father’s gone, but I still have a say. I won’t let you break up with Audrey–and neither will the rest of the Grey family.”

With that, she walked inside.

“Jensen…”

“Come on.”

He grabbed Nina’s wrist and led her in. As soon as they stepped through the door, Nina saw the living room packed with Grey family elders.

Jensen turned to Nina. “Go upstairs.”

“But what about you…”

“This doesn’t concern you.”

He nodded for her to go.

Nina had just started up the stairs when Ruth spo

“Since Ms. Tann’s already staying here,

she’s part of this conversation. Let’s get everything out in the open. As the Grey family matriarch, I’ll never let Jensen marry an outsider.”

“Mrs. Grey, don’t you think that’s a little extreme?” Nina never let anyone push her around. She said coolly, “Jensen’s not even your son, is he? You’re overstepping.”

“How dare you!”

Being childless was Ruth’s biggest sore spot. Her face turned dark. “Nina, don’t think I haven’t looked into you. In Linholt, you’re known as a homewrecker who breaks up marriages. You’re only clinging to Jensen for our family’s fortune, aren’t you? Let me tell you-if Jensen marries you, he’ll never inherit a penny of the Grey family!”
