“Wilder’s off school today. You promised him we’d all head to the amusement park together. I even reminded you last night. How could you forget it so easily?”
Chase grew increasingly annoyed listening to her ramble. His mind was fully fixed on how to win Nina over, leaving him no mood whatsoever for a family trip.
“We can go anytime later. Let’s put it off for now,” he replied in an icy tone.
“Again another day? Chase, be honest with me. Are you still hung up on Nina?”
As a woman, Katrina instantly saw through his odd behavior. The company was running smoothly now, and nothing else could upset him this badly-only Nina was the answer.
“I’ve heard news that Jensen has broken off the engagement with the Beaumont family. The whole city is talking about it, and word says it’s all because of Nina.” She watched closely for his reaction.
Chase frowned. “So what if it is?”
“We all went to the same high school. Now that she’s found her own happiness, we ought to wish her well, don’t you think?”
“Stop pretending to be clueless.” Chase let out a cold snort. “You know exactly how I feel about her.
“If you hadn’t schemed behind my back back then, the Mercer family would have already formed an alliance with the Tanns. The lady of this house would be Nina, not you.”
These words instantly ignited Katrina’s anger.
“You’ve repeated this same line countless times! If you’re that crazy about her, go after her then. Even if you do, you’ll never stand a chance. That young lady from the Tann family will never have feelings for a married man like you.”
She turned to take Wilder and leave, but Chase snapped sharply, “Stop right there.”
Katrina froze in her tracks.

“Know your place. You’re just a housewife living a comfortable life all thanks to me. I’ve noticed huge sums flowing out of your account lately, hundreds of thousands at a time. Where exactly have you spent all that money?”

Katrina’s heart skipped a beat the moment he brought up the money matter, yet she forced herself to stay calm.
“They’re just my daily expenses. You fool around with other women outside, so why can’t I spend some money freely?”
“Can you talk properly for once?”
“I can’t.”
She had no desire to argue further, and walked straight out of his office holding Wilder’s hand.
Chase’s face turned livid with rage, thinking his wife had grown far too unreasonable lately.
