Tara scoffed, “Why bother picking? They’re all fake, anyway.”

“Tara, Nina’s being nice–don’t be rude.”

“Seriously, this looks totally real. How could it be fake?”

“There are foreign labels and security tags! Even if you don’t want any, don’t go slandering Nina.”

The group turned on her quickly, and Tara started to hesitate.

Meanwhile, Nina sat down on a nearby sofa, watching everyone happily pick out gifts.

When Katrina stayed back, Nina smiled and asked, “Katrina, is this resort your family’s? It’s huge.”

It sounded like an innocent question, but it put Katrina in an impossible spot.

The resort wasn’t hers at all–it was just a villa the Sawyer family rarely used.

She’d only gotten the keys because the whole Sawyer family was out of the country, and her driver father had begged their maid to borrow them for her.

But now everyone’s eyes were fixed on Katrina.

Watching Nina hand out expensive gifts left and right, Katrina forced a reply. “Y–yes, it’s mine.”

“Such a big villa–where are all the maids?”

Nina’s next question left Katrina speechless.

Just getting the keys had been hard enough. Where was she supposed to find maids on short notice?

The other students found it strange too.

“Katrina, no maids or guards? Who takes care of this place normally?”

Katrina thought fast. “W–well… I sent them all home since you guys are coming over. I didn’t want them ruining our fun.”

Seeing that Katrina had found an excuse, Nina pretended to look troubled. “But we’re all starving. If there are no maids, who’s going to cook for us?”

When no one objected, Nina smiled sweetly, “That would be amazing! I heard rich families like the Sawyers eat lobster, caviar, truffles, and foie gras every day. I’ve always wanted to try them. Since we came all this way, you must have prepared all that for us, right?”

Lobster, caviar, truffles, and foie gras?

Where was she supposed to get all that?

Before Katrina could respond, the other students joined in.

“C’mon, Katrina! Nina got us all these nice gifts. We wanna try the fancy food too! You’re not gonna hold out on us, are you?”

“What are you talking about? Katrina’s the Sawyer heiress. A meal like that’s nothing to her. Right, Katrina?”

Katrina’s face paled.

She’d only planned to make barbecue skewers outside that night. But Nina had built up expectations so high–how could she back down now?

When Katrina stayed quiet, Nina stood up. “I’m sure you have everything ready. Let me go check what’s in the kitchen!”

As she spoke, she started toward the kitchen, but Katrina quickly blocked her way, forcing a smile. “Of course I prepared everything! But… the ingredients are still on the way. If we’re gonna eat it, it has to be fresh, right?”

The students cheered, believing there really would be a fancy dinner.
