“Everyone suddenly wants lobster, caviar, truffles, and foie gras. I don’t know where to get them, so… Katrina’s voice sounded pitiful and helpless.

Chase was quiet for a moment. “I’ll figure it out.”

Joy flashed in Katrina’s eyes. She softened her tone. “Thank you, Chase. I don’t know what I’d do without you…”

Katrina was too focused on calming her classmates to notice Chase’s strange mood.

Not far away, Nina leaned against the doorframe watching Katrina secretly call Chase in the yard. She raised an eyebrow and smiled.

She’d wondered what trick Katrina would pull–and it turned out she was just begging Chase for help.

Once, Chase would have solved this for her without a second thought.

But things were different now.

The Tann Group had pulled its investment, and the Mercer family was on the brink of collapse.

The Mercer family no longer had the money to support Chase spoiling Katrina.

Just then, Nina’s phone rang.

When she saw the caller ID, a faint smile spread across her lips.

Even fate was on her side today.

Nina answered the call. Cecilia sounded anxious and unusually polite.

“Nina, are you free today?”

“Mrs. Mercer, what’s up?”

“I’ve missed you so much. I want to invite you over for lunch. Could you come to the house?”

From her tone, Nina knew exactly what Cecilia was planning.

She glanced at Katrina, still waiting in the yard, and asked, “Is Chase there too?”

“Of course he is! He’s missed you a lot. He feels terrible about what happened before. I’ll make him apologize to you today.”

“I sec…” Nina smiled. “Alright. Then see you in a bit?”

“In a bit?”

“Yeah.” Nina said. “I have plans tonight, so let’s de lunch. I’ll be there in a little while.”

“But…”

“What’s wrong? If it’s inconvenient, we can just skip it.”

“No, no, not at all!” Cecilia laughed awkwardly. “I’ll start cooking right now and wait for you to

come.”

“Okay.”

Nina hung up and scoffed inwardly.

Cecilia had always been greedy and scheming.

Hurrying to invite her over meant the Mercers were in serious trouble.

Nina took her time and walked back into the living room.

It was nearly noon, and everyone was starving. Katrina stared anxiously outside, waiting for Chase to arrive with the food.

Finally, someone couldn’t take it anymore. “Katrina, I’m starving! When are we gonna eat?”

“Yeah, it’s almost noon. Are we ever gonna get that fancy meal?”

Complaints began to spread.

Katrina hurried to say, “Soon, I promise! I’ll call and ask again.”

She pulled out her phone and dialed Chase, but the line was busy–no one picked up.

Katrina’s face darkened.

Nina saw that the moment was right and stood up. “Looks like it’s not gonna work out. I have things to do at home, so I’ll head out first. Have fun, everyone.”

Her words set the other students on edge.

They’d been there for hours with not even a cup of coffee.
