I woke before the sun crested the treetops, this rare, lazy kind of peace spread through my whole body. It wasn’t just rest. It was that soft, boneless glow that comes after a night of really good sex.
Holy shit. What did we do? How were we reckless enough to have sex with two people right there beside us? I squeezed my eyes shut, mortified, and muttered under my breath, “Sometimes lust really will humble you.” I lay there for a few seconds, staring at the roof of the tent, feeling the faint soreness between my thighs and the lingering heat that still felt like it lived inside me.
A minute later, I slipped out of the tent, running my fingers through my hair, and froze at the sight in front of me.
Atila was crouched by the camp stove, making coffee. Cassian stood next to him, holding two mugs, saying something low that made the corner of Atila’s mouth twitch-barely, but enough.
They were… getting along.
I watched them for a few seconds. They almost looked like old friends. That surprised me more than it should have.
I took one of the cups when Átila held it out without quite looking at me, but his fingers brushed mine on purpose. I sat beside him. Cassian settled on a log across from us.
The silence between the three of us felt heavy. Not exactly awkward. Just… too aware.
I blew on my coffee slowly.
Beatrice emerged from the tent with a dramatic sigh, stretching her arms high over her head.
“I don’t think I’ve ever slept that well in my life.”
I tucked my hair behind my ear, trying to look normal.
“Yeah. I slept really well too.”
Átila turned his face toward me, that dark look in his eyes laced with mischief.
“Yeah,” he said smoothly. “It was a very good night.”
I made the smallest face and kicked his leg under the table.
“Stop.”
Beatrice laughed, completely oblivious to any subtext. Then she looked at Cassian.
“And you, cousin? You’re awfully quiet. Sleep okay?”
I lifted the mug to my lips just as Cassian took a beat too long before answering. His gaze slid to me, then to Atila, and he said calmly-too calmly-
“Not really. The foxes were moaning around the tent all night.”
The coffee went down wrong.
I choked hard, coughing, eyes watering.

Atila turned toward me immediately, his hand firm on my back.
“You okay?”
I nodded, forcing a tight smile.
“Perfect. I just… I think I’m gonna pack up so we can head out.”
I didn’t wait for a reply. I ducked into the tent almost at a run.
The second I was alone, I shut my eyes and let out a low, strangled groan.
Did Cassian hear us? Oh my God. I don’t even want to think about it.
My face was on fire. I dragged my hands through my hair and took a steadying breath.
No. I was not spiraling over this.
I started folding my things with exaggerated efficiency, shoving everything into my backpack like organization could somehow save me from humiliation. Slowly, my breathing evened out.
When I came back out, Átila was already taking down the rest of the campsite. He looked too focused. Cassian helped in
silence.
We got back to the park parking lot midmorning. We loaded our backpacks into the bus compartment, and I turned to Beatrice.
“I’m riding back with Atila, Bee.”
She shot me a sideways look, a slow smile spreading across her face.
“Okay. Have fun, girl.”
We hugged quickly. She climbed onto the bus, and I adjusted my backpack before walking over to the bike.
I put on my helmet. Átila was already seated, waiting.
Before starting the engine, he turned slightly toward me.
“You sure you can handle the ride?”
The question sounded way too innocent.
“Depends how you drive. So be careful with us, handsome.”
He let out a low sound, almost a laugh. He started the engine. The vibration rolled through my entire body before we even moved.
The afternoon road was washed in golden light that made everything prettier. The wind slipped under my clothes, but I fit against his back like that was exactly where I belonged.
Every now and then, he’d take one hand off the handlebar to stroke my arm, his fingers gliding slowly. He caught my and kissed the tips of my fingers over my glove.
That was becoming our favorite thing.

I melted every single time he did it.
I rested my cheek against his back and inhaled deeply. The woody scent mixed with leather, wind, and something that was just him made me a little dizzy. My whole body went slack.
If it were up to me, that road would never end.
But London rose on the horizon.
We headed straight to our building. But before we even parked, something caught my eye.
Black cars. Big. Shiny. Expensive.
They weren’t parked in spaces. They were lined up, like they were waiting for someone important.
Atila pulled into his spot. His body went rigid beneath my hands.
I climbed off the bike, took off my helmet, and smiled.
