– MAYA

His body pressed against mine, solid and warm, and then I felt his lips touch my neck. It wasn’t rushed. It was slow. Intentional. Like he was savoring every second of something he knew he shouldn’t be doing. His warm breath brushed my skin before his teeth grazed lightly along the sensitive curve beneath my ear, and a sound escaped me before I could stop it. A soft, helpless moan that made his hand tighten on my waist.

His erection pressed into me, hard as steel, impossible to ignore, and my body reacted instantly, leaning back into him like it already knew exactly where it belonged. My heart was racing too fast, my breathing too shallow, and there was something intoxicating about knowing that this man, always so controlled, was dangerously close to losing that control because of me.

“Maya…” he murmured against my skin, his voice rough.

But before either of us could say or do anything else, the sound shattered the moment.

The window glass exploded with a sharp, violent crack.

I froze instantly.

A small baseball rolled across the floor, bouncing once before stopping near the desk.

We jumped apart at the same second.

My heart pounded in panic as I yanked my dress down, my hands trembling as I tried to look normal, tried to pretend nothing had happened. Atila was already several steps away from me, his posture rigid, his expression completely transformed into something cold and unreadable.

Then a head appeared through the broken window.

A tall blond guy in a psychology department baseball jersey climbed in carefully, clearly more focused on the ball than anything else.

Until he looked up.

And saw us.

His eyes widened immediately when he noticed me pulling down my

dress.

“Oh. Sorry. Didn’t mean to interrupt…” he said, freezing in place. Then he blinked, staring straight at Atila. “Wait… Professor Volkov? Wow,”

He dropped his head quickly, his face turning bright red.

“I didn’t see anything.”

The silence that followed

unbearable.

Átila spoke first, completely calm, like nothing had happened.

“Thank you. Harry, right?”

The guy nodd

quickly.

“Yeah.”

Átila crossed his arms casually.

Chapter 118

“I graded your exam during the break today. I have a feeling you got a perfect score.”

Harry blinked, confused.

“A perfect score? But I didn’t even study. That’s impossible.”

A faint smile curved the corner of Atila’s mouth.

“Exactly. That’s why it’s just a feeling. Nothing guaranteed.”

Harry stared at him for a second, then smiled, understanding perfectly.

“You can count on me, Professor. I’m leaving.”

He grabbed the ball, still smiling, and climbed back out through the same window he came in.

The silence returned.

Atila and I stared at each other.

The tension still vibrated between us.

“You can breathe now,” he said calmly.

Only then did I realize I’d been holding my breath.

I exhaled slowly.

“Oh my God,” I whispered. “He almost caught us.”

His eyes softened, but his posture stayed alert.

“We should leave before anyone else gets suspicious.”

He took my hand and led me to the door. I unlocked it with fingers still slightly unsteady, and we stepped out into the hallway.

The moment we blended into the flow of students, he let go of my hand immediately.

We kept our distance.

Like strangers.

But when we passed near the main entrance, he leaned slightly toward me and whispered without looking at me.

“Want to do something right now?”

I glanced at him sideways.

“Depends on what.”

We stopped near the entrance, and I noticed his gaze shift subtly toward the plainclothes security outside.

Then he smiled.

“Not here.”

He turned slightly.

“Come on. Let’s go out the back.”

My heart sped up.

I followed him.

“What about your mother’s security?” I whispered.

He let out a low, almost boyish laugh.

“They’ll stay there.”

That’s when I understood.

He was sneaking away.

We slipped out through the back door, and for the first time since I woke up, there were no guards around us. Just the two of us, walking fast, almost running, like accomplices.

We entered the first subway station we found and boarded the first train that arrived, without even checking the destination. The world outside blurred past the windows, indistinct, irrelevant.

By the time we got off, it was already night.

The station was completely empty.

Silent.

Deserted.

He took my hand.

Threaded his fingers through mine.

And didn’t let go.

We walked slowly along the platform, the sound of our footsteps echoing through the empty space, until he stopped near one of the concrete pillars.

Then he pulled me into him.

And kissed me.

There was no hesitation.

No restraint.

His mouth claimed mine, hungry and deep, his tongue sliding against mine as his hand moved up my back, pulling me flush against him. My body responded without thinking, my hands gripping his shirt, feeling his warmth, his weight, his reality.

When we pulled apart, breathless, I realized I was smiling.

He frowned slightly,

“What?”

I let out a soft laugh.

Chapter 118

“We look like two idiots in love, living out some forbidden romance.”

His smile appeared slowly.

“Maybe we are.”

“You’re a terrible example of a professor.”

“You’re a terrible student.”

“In my defense, I learn fast.”

“I know. I’m the one who taught you how to kiss, remember? And clearly, you learned very fast.”

“You’re unbelievably full of yourself.”

“You like it.”

“Maybe.”

He kissed me again.

Slower this time.

Better.

More dangerous.

Then his hands slid down to my thighs, and in one smooth motion, he lifted me and pressed me against the pillar. My legs wrapped around his waist automatically, my body completely surrendered to the moment.

That’s when I opened my eyes.

And saw him.

Across the platform.

A figure.

Standing.

Still.

A man.

Black hood.

Black hoodie.

Standing in the shadows.

Watching.

My heart skipped a beat,

Átila was kissing my neck, completely distracted, completely vulnerable.

But the man didn’t move.

Except for his arm.

Which lifted slowly.

And then I saw the metallic glint.

A gun.

Pointed directly at Átila’s back.

The world slowed down.

Oh my God.

My body moved before my mind could catch up.

I shoved Atila.

Twisted.

Switched our positions.

And then I felt it.

The impact.

The bullet tore through my back like fire.

The air vanished from my lungs.

Pain exploded.

Hot.

Violent.

Unreal.

My body went weak instantly.

My vision trembled.

But before I fell, before I lost all my strength, I saw Átila’s face.

The absolute horror in his eyes.

And in that moment, it became clear. Someone wanted him dead. But that person didn’t know one thing. I would never let him die. Not tonight. Not in front of me.

And as the darkness began to close in around me, heavy and cold, I realized I couldn’t feel my legs anymore, couldn’t feel his hands shaking as they tried to hold me together. His voice was saying my name, over and over, but it already sounded far away, like it belonged to another world I was slipping out of. My fingers curled weakly against his shirt, memorizing the warmth of him, the only thing that had ever truly felt like home. I wanted to tell him not to be afraid. I wanted to tell him that loving him had been worth everything. But my lips wouldn’t move. And as my vision faded and his face became the last thing I would ever see, one quiet, undeniable truth settled inside me. I wasn’t going to survive this.
