Chapter 57

I moaned a little too loud when he closed his mouth around my left breast, the sound spilling out of me like I didn’t even own my body anymore.

I turned my face toward the mansion behind us-too bright, too alive. The music still thumped through the walls. The party kept going like nothing was happening…

While I was out here in the garden, my blouse open, and Átila sucking on my breasts like he was starving.

God, that felt good.

I mean… this was insane.

I tried to take a deep breath, but it didn’t help. The air came in too hot, left too fast, and my knees almost gave out when his ongue slid slowly over my nipple before he bit down-gentle, but punishing. Like he wanted to make me pay for every second I’d spent away from him.

“Wait.” My voice came out shaky, breaking right in the middle of pleasure. “What if someone finds us out here?”

Atila didn’t answer with words.

He answered with his mouth.

He bit me again, then lifted his head and crashed his lips into mine-quick, messy, hungry. His beard scraped my skin, and he roughness against his hot mouth dragged another moan out of me. I tried to swallow it down.

couldn’t.

When he finally kissed me for real, the world disappeared.

His kiss was all urgency and possession. His hand clamped around my waist, pulling me hard against him, and I felt his cock -thick, hard, pulsing-pressed into me through his pants like I was the only thing that mattered right now.

Anyone who comes near us right now is out of luck,” he murmured, his deep voice brushing my mouth.

I tried to breathe, but he kissed me again-deeper-stealing the air from my lungs like he wanted me trapped in him. When he pulled back just enough for me to speak, I was already panting, dizzy.\

‘Atila…” I rested my forehead against his chin for a second, trying to find the ground again. “I have to work.”

He let out a low sound, almost impatient, and his hand slid up my back, holding me like I might run.

“Stay with me. Just a little longer, princess.”

He kissed his way down my jaw, along the line of my throat, until his mouth found my neck. He was hot, relentless, and his tongue left a slow trail that made me squeeze my eyes shut.

“Ah.” I sucked in a breath between my teeth. “You found my weak spot.”

Atila gave a short, rough laugh that vibrated against my skin. He nipped me lightly, and my whole body reacted like he’d lit a

match inside me.

For a second. I forgot the mansion.

Chapter 57

Forgot the masks. The people. The rules.

Forgot myself.

And then he stopped.

And the air changed.

I felt it before I saw it-the tension in his body. The heavy silence. The way his hand on my waist went still, hard, like he’d just hit something that didn’t make sense.

His fingers brushed the chain around my neck, slow.

“Why are you still wearing this?” he asked.

And his voice wasn’t gentle.

I opened my eyes instantly.

Pleasure was still clinging to my skin, but that question yanked everything straight down, like ice water dumped over me. My throat tightened. My hand flew up on instinct, gripping the necklace like it was part of my body.

I pushed Atila back just enough to breathe again and started buttoning my blouse with trembling fingers.

One button.

Then another.

I couldn’t look at him while I did it.

‘Did I say something wrong, princess?” His voice came lower, controlled-but I heard the tension underneath it. “What is t?”

lifted my face.

And that’s when I saw it.

Even with the anger, even with the shock, he was still there-fully there. His gaze still held me like I belonged to him. His body was still hot, hard, ready.

Nothing about him had changed.

Not even a little.

Even with the necklace.

He still wanted me.

The realization hit too hard-relief and panic squeezing my chest at the same time.

“What is that look?” he pressed.

I shook my head too fast. “Nothing.”

Atila stepped toward me, and I stepped back without meaning to. The tree trunk behind me scraped my spine.

Chapter 57

“Nothing?” His eyes narrowed. “Are you sure?”

I swallowed, trying to keep my voice steady. “Can’t you confirm it by reading my mind?”

It came out like a tease.

But it was just defense.

His brow furrowed immediately. His stare sharpened.

“I’ll admit I haven’t been able to read your mind since we ran into each other again,” he said slowly, like he was putting pieces together. “Are you… wearing some kind of blocking artifact from your family?”

My stomach dropped.

I didn’t answer.

I just bit down hard on my bottom lip until I tasted the faint metallic sting of blood.

His gaze slid to my neck.

To the necklace.

When he looked back up, his expression had shifted. The anger was still there-but there was something else too.

Something sharper.

Something dangerous.

‘So that’s it,” he said, voice rough. “This necklace is what’s blocking your energy.”

nodded once, barely.

And it was like striking a match inside him.

Atila moved in a single step-fast-and his shadow swallowed me whole. His hand shot up, straight for the chain.

Come here. I’m going to destroy this shit.”

Panic exploded in me.

‘No!” I grabbed the necklace tight, shielding it with my body, and slammed my palm against his chest to stop him. “You’re not destroying anything!”

It came out harsher than I meant it to.

A low growl slipped from my throat before I could stop it.

His jaw clenched.

His eyes darkened, and for a second I thought he was going to ignore me and rip it off anyway.

But he stopped.

His chest rose and fell slowly, heavy-like he was fighting not to lose control.

Chapter 57

My hand sank into his muscle. Warm. Solid. Unmovable.

I took a breath and kept going, because if I stopped now, I wouldn’t be able to say it at all.

“I chose to keep wearing it…” My voice broke halfway through, and I swallowed hard. “Because I needed to know if you’d love me without fate forcing us together since the day we met.”

Atila didn’t move.

He just stared at me, and I felt the weight of his gaze like a hand around my throat.

He took a deep breath, and when he spoke, his voice sounded irritated and exhausted at the same time-like I’d drained the last bit of patience out of him.

‘Why do you get so much satisfaction out of making everything harder?”

I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.

‘I-I…”

He cut me off like he couldn’t stand to hear it.

‘You know what? Fine.” He stepped back, and the distance felt ridiculous-like he’d ripped the air out of my world. “You win, Melrose. If you want me that far away, then stay there with your stupid convictions.”

His anger wasn’t explosive.
