Chapter 6
MAYA
I stared at him from inside the wardrobe, barely breathing.

Alpha Atila stood right in front of me, taking up the entire attic like the space wasn’t built to hold someone like him. For the first time, his eyes were on me.
And to my horror, the first thing that hit me wasn’t fear.
Not anger,
Not hatred.
It was the fact that he was… insanely hot.
Not the pretty, polished kind of handsome from the romance books I hid under my mattress.
This was something else.
Rough. Dangerous. Built to break rules and bodies.
His jaw looked like it had been carved out of stone. His eyes were this sharp blue-green that practically burned, and the way he carried himself-quiet, steady, in control-made the air feel eavier around him. Like the whole world adjusted just to make room.
His dark coat fit across his shoulders like it belonged there, and could see tension in his neck, his forearms, the way his hands stayed still like he didn’t need to move to be a threat.
Oh my God, Maya. What is wrong with you?”
This was Alpha Atila.
The same shameless bastard I’d caught upstairs in Moonville-spread out on a bed with two naked omegas draped all over him like he was some kind of king.
And now I was trapped in a wardrobe, staring at him like an idio
Worse.
Like a girl.
And why the hell was he even up here?
I tried to look away, but I couldn’t.
Something in me wouldn’t let me.
There was pressure in the room-like his presence had weight. Heat. Power. It made the attic feel smaller, like the walls were inching closer.
My heart took off.
And it wasn’t only because I was scared.
He tilted his head slightly, like he could smell me without even moving. When he spoke, his voice came out low and rough, vibrating through the wood and straight into my chest.

“Who are you?”
It wasn’t a question.
It was an order.
My throat went dry instantly. I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.
Before I could force a sound, sharp heels clicked behind him.

“Alpha Atila,” my mother said, appearing over his shoulder like she’d been standing there the whole time, this is our maid. Maya Hemsworth.”
Maid.
The word hit harder than a slap.
Maid. Servant. Nobody.
Not daughter.
Never daughter.
For a second, I almost laughed-pure nerves, pure disbelief.
Because drawing more attention was the last thing I wanted.
His brow furrowed, eyes still locked on mine.
“Maid?” he repeated, like the word didn’t fit what he was seeing.
His gaze slid to my mother, suspicion written all over his face.
My mother’s smile was stiff. Forced.
“Yes. A maid,” she insisted, voice a little too fast. “Maya is an omega. That must be the scent you noticed downstairs. That sweet… irritating smell. I apologize, Alpha. I’ll send her home.”
Home?
This is my home, I wanted to scream.
But my mother’s eyes cut to me over his shoulder-sharp, warning.
Don’t speak. Don’t ruin this. Don’t exist.
‘And where am I supposed to go in this weather?’ Panic rose so fast it made me dizzy.
Then his voice sliced through the attic again.
“She can come to Moonville,” he said. “I’ll keep her at my house.
“What?!” my mother and Elizabeth snapped at the exact same time.
His chest rose with a short, impatient breath, but his eyes never left mine.
Up close, he was even worse.
Even more unreal.

Those blue-green eyes looked like they could peel me open, like they could see things in me I didn’t even know were there. My palms turned damp, and for one terrifying second I couldn tell if I was shaking from fear…
or from something else.
Something my body didn’t want to admit.
He took a step closer.
Then he crouched.
And suddenly he was right there-close enough to make it feel itimate, close enough to make it feel dangerous.
1 saw the veins in his forearms. The way his shirt stretched over is biceps. The width of his chest when he leaned in.
And something inside me lit up too fast, too hot.
“Are you coming with me, sweetheart?” he asked, voice lower now, steady like he already knew the answer.
Sweetheart.
The word shouldn’t have sounded like that.
It didn’t sound like a joke.
It didn’t sound like flirting.
It sounded… real.
Like he meant it.
My throat tightened. I bit the inside of my check again, trying not to breathe too deeply.
Because his scent was right there.
Pine and something wild underneath it, something that tugged my instincts like a hook.
For one terrifying moment, saying yes felt… easy..
Tempting.

A way out.
Out of this house.
Out of the constant humiliation.
Out of this attic.
Then I looked at my mother.
HWIL W
She was shaking her head fast, eyes wide, threatening me withou making a sound.
I looked at Elizabeth. Freida. Margot.
Shock. Disgust. Rage.
Langford stood behind him, silent, watching like she hadn’t decided yet if this was a blessing or a disaster.

I looked back at Atila.
At his eyes.
At the way he was waiting.
“I-I don’t know,” I whispered, hating how small my voice sounded.
My mother jumped in immediately, like she’d been holding her breath.

“She doesn’t want to. Alpha Atila,” she said quickly, stepping forward. “Maya is too naive. Too weak to make decisions alone. Please don’t insist.”
Weak.
The word landed like a blade.
Because it wasn’t new.
It was just the same cruelty in a cleaner outfit.
His eyes darkened.
And then he growled-low, sharp, terrifying.
“Silence.”
