The Rejected daughter chosen by the Alpha (Maya and Atila) novel Chapter 64

Chapter 64

-MAYA

Beatrice let out another pained sound, and I remembered she was still on the ground.

“Ah-ah-my foot’s gonna fall off…”

Cassian immediately crouched beside her.

“Let me help.”

Beatrice tried to be tough, but her voice broke anyway.

“Don’t touch-”

Cassian took her ankle carefully, assessing it fast.

“You sprained it,” he concluded. “Badly. We need to get back to the farm right now.”

Beatrice looked at me, furious and teary-eyed from pain.

“Damn it… I’m sorry I ruined our trip to Hollow Creek, Maya.”

“It’s okay, Bee. We can go another day. The most important thing is you’re okay.”

Beatrice squeezed her eyes shut.

“It’s not okay,” she growled, gripping her ankle. “I don’t even know when we’ll get another day off like this, and you wanted to go so badly.”

I opened my mouth to say it didn’t matter.

But I couldn’t.

Because it did.

And I knew it.

Attila looked around, taking in the trail, the hidden hole, the way back.

Then he looked at me.

“So you were heading to Hollow Creek?” he asked.

I lifted

my

chin.

“Yes.”

Cassian’s head snapped up.

“Hollow Creek?” he repeated, suspicious.

Attila looked at Cassian like he was deciding whether to shove him again.

“Since we’re not that far from the farm,” Attila said coldly, “you take her back. I’ll continue with Maya.”

Cassian rose slowly.

They stared at each other.

And I swear I could hear the air crackling between them.

Cassian crossed his arms.

“I can keep going with Maya. You take her friend back.”

Attila smiled without humor.

“No chance. You’re not continuing with my

wife.”

“Why? Afraid you’ll lose something?”

Beatrice groaned loudly.

“Ah…”

I looked at her, then at the two of them, completely stunned.

“Hold on,” Beatrice snapped, pissed through the pain. “Are you two fighting because neither of you wants to carry me? Screw you both. I’ll walk.”

Both men looked at me at the same time, and I almost wanted to smash their heads together.

Beatrice tried to get up, stubborn as hell, bracing a hand on the ground like pain was just a minor inconvenience,

I rushed to help her.

“Bee, slow down-”

She put weight on her foot and-

“AH!” she screamed, collapsing again.

I caught her before she hit her head.

My pulse was out of control.

I glared up at the two idiots standing there like fence posts.

“Are you two going to stand there or are you going to HELP?!”

Cassian exhaled like he’d just lost an internal war.

“Fine. I’ll take her.”

Attila stayed rigid, unmoving.

Cassian crouched and lifted Beatrice carefully into his arms.

Beatrice grimaced.

“I hate this…”

“I know,” Cassian said-and for the first time, his voice sounded… real. “But you need it.”

He looked at me.

“If you need help, I can come back.”

Attila answered without blinking.

“Relax. I’ll take care of Maya.”

Cassian’s jaw tightened.

Attila’s jaw tightened.

My patience tightened.

Beatrice reached into her backpack and pulled out a folded piece of paper, holding it out to me.

“Take this.”

I took it, confused.

“What is it?”

“My dad’s friend’s name. And his address in the village,” she said quickly, breathing through the pain. “Tell him you’re… important to me. Tell him I’m Tharok’s daughter and I asked you to find him. He’ll take you in. He’ll treat you well.”

My chest squeezed.

I curled my fingers around the paper like it was a key.

“Thank you… my friend.”

Beatrice held my gaze, firm even in Cassian’s arms.

“Go, Maya. And be careful. Take care of yourself.”

I squeezed her hand.

“You too.”

Cassian turned with her and disappeared down the trail.

The silence returned.

But this time it wasn’t empty.

It was heavy.

Full.

I turned slowly.

And there was Attila.

Big.

Still.
