ATILA

I leaned against the doorframe and let Maya step inside first

Langford had outdone herself

The guest room at the end of the hall didn’t feel like a guest room anymore. The canopy bed sat in the center like a throne, sheer curtains spilling down in soft waves, almost brushing the hardwood floor. Two tall windows framed the night beyond

-Moonville’s sky, black and scattered with stars, the moonlight ouring in cold and silver through the glass.

Maya stopped just past the threshold

She didn’t say a word. She just breathed, slow and careful, her gaze moving over the room like she’d walked into another world.

First the windows

Then the curtains.

Then the canopy

Then the thick rug mullling our footsteps..

Oh my God… this place is perfect

Look at those windows. Those curtains,

And that bed it looks like something out of a palace.

A real palace. Like Buckingham.

Her thoughts hit me like a shove.

It was still strange. Too intimate. Like someone whispering straight into my skull without asking permission.

My jaw tightened as I watched her drift farther into the room, moving carefully, like she was afraid she’d break the spell if she touched anything

She ran her fingers over the edge of the comforter, pinching the fabric between her thumb and forefinger.

And her scent-Christ

It filled the space too easily. Warm and sweet, with the faintest crus edge. The kind of omega scent that tested the limits of my control on purpose.

Except it wasn’t on purpose.

Not from her.

It was just… her.

Too much.

I’d spent my entire life hearing stories about the bond, Old legels passed down from Alpha to Alpha, men swearing the world changed the second their Luma appeared.

There was something invisible between us, pulling my focus back to her every time it tried to wander The rest of the house vanished My breathing started matching hers without my permission. My pulse fell into the same frantic rhythm as the small, panicked heart inside her chest.

I swallowed and broke the silence.

“You like your room?”

She startled, like she’d forgotten I was still there.

“My room she repeated. “1… I’m really staying here?”

“You are My voice came out steady, even if my body didn’t feel ready at all. “This is your room. And you can stay as long as

you want

Her brown eyes widened. Moonlight caught the freckles across her cheeks. A second later she bit her bottom lip, like she was holding something back.

This is a palace compared to the tiny room behind my parents house.

It doesn’t even feel real!

So she’d been shoved into the back.

I didn’t need her to say another word out loud for me to picture exactly what her life had looked like.

1 lifted my gaze just as she realized I was still watching her. Colo rushed into her cheeks, then down her throat,

disappearing beneath the neckline of her shirt, hidden by her cont.

I pressed my tongue to the roof of my mouth, hard.

Why-out of everything holy-did she have to be this… distracting?

I wasn’t some young Alpha on the edge of his first rut. I was Moonville’s Supreme Alpha. I’d survived wars, council disputes, endless nights handling problems no one else had the spine to touch. I’d seen beauty in every form, enough times to be

mmune to it.

But none of it compared to her.

I exhaled slowly, irritated with myself.

“It’s just a guest room, I said, keeping my tone under control even if I wasn’t. “If you want anything changed, I can have it done.”

“I don’t need anything,” she said quickly. “It’s perfect.”

Then her thoughts exploded into my head-messy, insecure, chotic, impossible to ignore.

Oh my God, did I make the right choice coming with him?”

“What if I’m being completely stupid?

He’s still the saine pervert I saw tangled up with two omegas, looking like some damn octopus.”

Chapter 8

What kind of sane woman trusts a man like that?!

What

My eyes widened before I could stop it.

She’d seen me with two omegas?

When

“What the hell are you thinking?” I blurted before I could catch myself.

She jumped, eyes huge, like I’d yanked the floor out from under her

“Me” she stammered “You want to know what I’m thinking?”

1 dragged a hand through my hair, trying to figure out if this was actually happening.

“Was that your first time in this house?” I asked, switching tracks.

“No, she answered too fast. “I mean-yes. No. I’ve been here one. Just to deliver a cup my mother sent.”

And her thoughts came again, tripping over each other.

And by some cruel twist of fate, I saw that shameless bastard right on top of his bed.

Fuck

So it was her

The maid who brought the Melrose tribute.

But why hadn’t I smelled her that day?

Now her scent was impossible to miss.

Something didn’t add up.

Her thoughts kept coming, one right after another.

My head is a mess.

Mom is probably losing it right now

And my father… my father’s going to want to kill me.

Should I ask to go back?’

Go back to what?

To kneel on rice again until my knees go numb?”
