The Rejected Luna (Avery and Kaden) novel Chapter 207

**Between the Wings of Twilight Lies the Memory of You** by Liren Ava Roen

The sharp, jarring clamor erupted like a storm, pulling Lisa from the kitchen in a flurry. “Mr. Jones!” she called out, her voice laced with urgency.

“Get out!” my father bellowed, his voice echoing through the house like thunder.

Lisa, startled by the ferocity of his command, darted back into the safety of the kitchen. Meanwhile, I nestled into my corner, propping my chin on my hand, a slow, almost sinister smile creeping across my face.

Ah, so this is what it felt like to watch the tables turn. A traitor deserved to feel the sting of betrayal. This was justice, a fair reckoning for all the wrongs that had been inflicted.

The tumult was so intense that it drew Antonia from her sanctuary, her room. She appeared at the top of the stairs, her makeup flawlessly intact, but she had swapped her usual attire for a simple dress that flowed around her as she rushed down. “Dad, what’s going on? Where’s Mom?” she asked, concern etched across her features.

Her innocent inquiry only served to stoke the flames of his fury. “Don’t you dare call that whore your mother!” he spat, venom dripping from every word. “Tell me, has she been sneaking men into our home when I’m not around?”

Antonia’s expression shifted to one of shock, her eyes widening. “Of course not! Mom has always been virtuous. Dad, what’s wrong with you? Why would you say something so horrible?”

“She did it! I saw it with my own eyes! She was rolling around with that pig, Zachary! What do you want me to say?” The accusation hung heavy in the air, filled with the weight of betrayal.

Antonia recoiled, disbelief etched on her face. “That’s impossible! Mom set him up for Zephyra. How could she be with him?” The confusion in her voice was palpable, a mix of loyalty and desperate denial.

Suddenly, a realization struck my father like a bolt of lightning. “Zephyra!” he roared, his voice booming through the house. “Get your ass out here!”

I pushed myself up from my seat, making my way to the staircase, leaning casually against the railing as I looked down at the tumultuous scene unfolding below.

“I’m right here,” I called out, my voice steady.

His gaze shot up to meet mine, fury flickering in his eyes like a wildfire. “You ungrateful brat! Was this your doing?”

“It was,” I replied, my tone unnervingly calm. “Aunt Janice prepared a man for me, but my husband happened to be here. How could I accept such a gift? Naturally, I had to let Aunt Janice enjoy him herself. And look, they hit it off immediately. So passionate.”

My father’s rage surged, boiling over as he grabbed his cane, advancing toward me with a menacing intent. I merely toyed with my phone, a small, satisfied smile playing on my lips. “Dad, did you catch that little video clip? I have the original right here on my phone. If you dare lay a hand on me, the only thing you’ll get in return is a public spectacle of humiliation.”

“My mother’s belongings. I want them back. All of them. Now.”

I had made it clear. If Antonia wouldn’t willingly hand them over, she would be forced to comply.

Without hesitation, my father barked, “Antonia, go get them!”

Antonia frowned, uncertainty clouding her features. “But Dad, Mom liked those things too…”

Before she could finish her thought, my father struck her leg with his cane, the sound sharp and cruel. “Shut up and go!”

Antonia cried out in pain, biting her lip to stifle her resentment. She shot me a venomous glare before storming upstairs, her footsteps heavy with defiance as she went to retrieve the items.

When she finally returned, I was taken aback to see not just one necklace, but a collection of my mother’s jewelry, each piece a fragment of her memory.
