“Alright. Well, I’m here if you need me.”
“So am I,” Mia said, although the way her voice shook slightly just made the knife twist in my chest. I looked away, biting the inside of my cheek so as not to cry.
Zane’s smile when I turned back around, however, took me by surprise. “What is it?” I muttered.
He shrugged. “Just curious to see how you handle this, that’s all. I do love a good bit of revenge.”
…
Callum’s POV
Once Bianca and I were alone, sequestered in my dorm, I pulled my hand away from her grip and frowned, studying her.
Something about this situation felt… off. Very off.
Her entrance earlier had been too perfectly timed, her sobs almost theatrical in nature, and now, as she stumbled over to my bed and sat, her movements seemed jerky and unnatural.
“Bianca,” I said slowly, watching her carefully, “did you send those pictures?”
If she did, then I wasn’t sure if I could handle it; following Liora around was one thing, but taking pictures of a girl’s underwear and sending them to the entire school was really perverted and disgusting.
“No?” Bianca lifted her head and shot me a meaningful look that made my jaw clench. I recalled all too well what happened—or almost happened—the night of the ceremony. But I shoved the thoughts down before the images could form again.
“No,” I said, pulling her close. “I’m not that kind of guy. You’re my betrothed, Bianca. No one else.”
Bianca sighed dreamily and curled up in my embrace, seemingly satisfied for now. I handed her a tissue and let her cry while I held her.
But she didn’t know just how hard I’d had to work my throat to force the words out just now.
And she had no idea about the sudden and unexpected pang of confusion and jealousy I felt at the thought of Liora sleeping with another man—even if that man was the King himself.
