The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 151

Liora’s POV

“Miss Belrose! If you aren’t going to pay attention in class, then I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

My cheeks flushed as I turned back to face the teacher, still picking a piece of gum out of my hair. The boy behind me snickered and sank down in his chair as I stammered to explain what had happened—to no avail.

“No more fooling around, Miss Belrose.” The professor picked up his chalk and turned back to the board. “One more slip-up, and you’ll be facing detention again.”

I clenched my jaw but said nothing—just picked up my pencil and continued taking my notes. But all throughout the rest of class, the boy behind me and his stupid little friends kept throwing wads of paper at my feet, snapping my bra straps, and yanking on my ponytail.

By the end of class, I was all too eager to get the hell out of here. At least the weekend had finally arrived.

The entire week had been a nightmare. Everyone had seen the pictures by then, and they made sure I knew it. Everywhere I went, I faced hateful sneers and cruel jabs. I must have had someone’s gum stuck to my hair or my seat more times than I could count.

Once, I was even followed by a gang of Bianca supporters when I was walking home from the library after hours. They had cornered me and were trying to “teach me a lesson” when Zane arrived and scared them all off.

And still, five days after the whole debacle began, I hadn’t found a single scrap of evidence pointing to whomever had taken those pictures. I suspected that it had something to do with Bianca, but without solid proof, there wasn’t anything I could do about it.

I slipped out the side door of the building that led to the parking lot, letting the cool air soothe my flushed face. It was quiet here, and with the sky darkening already, no one would spot me sneaking off campus for some time alone. I couldn’t bear to go to the cafeteria for dinner—not when everyone would stare and mock me and try to mess with my food.

For a moment, I just leaned against the brick wall, shutting my eyes and inhaling deeply through my nose to steady myself. It was then that I heard movement up ahead, and opened my eyes to see Callum loading up his car with a duffle bag.

I bit my lip, considering staying hidden. But I hadn’t had a chance to speak to him since the other morning; I wanted to explain myself. Wanted him to know that Bianca was mistaken—or that she was perhaps even lying outright.

I pushed away from the wall and walked over to him. “Callum?” I called out.

He stiffened for a moment, then continued loading up his car. “What’s up?”

“Where are you going?”
