Liora’s POV
My head was still pounding slightly from where I had bumped it, making the lights of the gas station even more blinding. I rubbed my fingers across the bump, hissing at the sudden ache from the raised welt that had formed on my temple.
But really, I hardly felt the pain at all.
I stared down at my phone in my hand. At the pictures I had taken of Bianca and the mystery man at the motel. They were grainy and slightly blurred, and Bianca could only be seen from behind, but to me, who had been there in person, they were plenty clear.
It didn’t take a genius to know what Bianca was up to in that hotel. It wasn’t the kind of place people met at for mundane business or catching up with old friends; especially not this late at night.
Was Bianca cheating on Callum?
The thought didn’t make any sense, and yet, at the same time, I supposed it did. Maybe Bianca always clung to Callum because she was overcompensating for what was really going on behind closed doors.
Maybe she had even framed me for cheating out of projection of her own crimes.
Either way, I had proof that she was up to something that princesses certainly didn’t do.
“Liora?”
Gasping, I quickly shut off my phone and whirled around at the sound of the familiar voice. Callum was standing at the end of the snack aisle with an energy drink and a bag of pretzels in hand.
“What are you doing here?” I blurted out before I could stop myself. I immediately cringed at how desperate and surprised I sounded, like it wasn’t normal for a student who owned a car to be at a gas station.
I hesitated once more. If this wasn’t a trap, then it felt like a recipe for disaster at the very least. “No, I’m good—”
“Let me drive you. With that bump on your head, you could pass out in the rain.”
I hated that he was right. After a moment, I sighed and relented, grabbing a bag of chips and one of those iced coffee drinks that was really more sugar and milk than coffee. “Alright. Sure. Thanks.”
Callum nodded and approached the cash register with his snacks. I got in line behind him, but he snatched my snacks away and paid for everything before I could protest. My cheeks flushed as he casually swiped his card, then handed me everything.
We hurried out to the car, running through the rapidly worsening rain. I was surprised yet again when Callum opened the passenger side door for me, even though it soaked his hair. I climbed in, muttering my thanks, and when he climbed into the driver’s side, I tried not to notice how shockingly good his hair actually looked when it was plastered against his head like that.
