The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 165

“I can tell you don’t actually mean it.” I turned on my heel, but Zane’s hand shot out and grabbed my wrist, pulling me back. I tried to yank my arm away, but he held fast.

“I really am, Liora. I just thought I was helping.”

“Helping how, exactly?” I finally managed to twist my arm away. “You promised me you wouldn’t release those pictures, and you did it anyway. And now the whole school knows about it. Put yourself in Callum’s shoes. Imagine how hurtful it would be to have all of your peers gossiping about your relationship like that.”

“Well, at least they’re not talking about you anymore,” he said. “Have you heard a single person talk about your ‘sugar daddy’ since this happened?”

I parted my lips to come out with a retort, but I couldn’t think of one. As pissed as I was, I had to admit that Zane was sort of right; the rumor mill was fickle and liked grasping onto the newest, juiciest gossip. Therefore, everything surrounding Bianca had put my “scandal” on the back burner. For now, at least.

“That doesn’t make it right,” I muttered.

“I know it doesn’t.” Zane took the tickets and waved them in my face before slapping them back down on my books. “But maybe these could be a start? Come on, Liora. You can’t hate me forever.”

“Try me.”

“Liora…”

I sighed, staring down at my feet. Zane was right; I may have been angry now, but I couldn’t bring myself to be mad forever. He was still my friend. I… cared about him, even if he was a fucking idiot at times.

Finally, I looked back up at him. He was still smiling at me, waiting for a response like the cat that got the cream. He sensed my resolve wavering.

“Fine,” I huffed. “I’ll go with you. But if you slip up again, I’ll kick your ass.”
