“Why?” Zane blurted out, shooting up again. Callum was on his feet now, too, although he didn’t speak. “She only went out there tonight because she was trying to stop me! If anything, I should be the one who’s expelled, not her!”
“Do not question my decisions, boy.” Alder lifted his hand to dismiss Zane, then gestured to the guards, who came around the couch and flanked me. “This wolfless girl has been a nuisance since day one. Given her involvement in tragedy after tragedy, I think it’s time we put this to an end. Take her to her room to have her pack while I prepare the expulsion papers. I want her gone by morning.”
I couldn’t speak as the guards hauled me to my feet. I was too stunned. Not that it mattered, anyway.
They were already dragging me out of the room, just as Bianca’s friend had been yesterday.
…
Callum’s POV
The door fell shut behind Liora and the guards. The last I saw of her was her pale, trembling face. She didn’t speak. Didn’t defend herself. She just stared at the principal with a look of pure shock and betrayal.
“You bastard,” Zane hissed, fists clenching. “I oughta—”
“Ought to what, Zane?” Mr. Alder turned and calmly walked over to his desk, where he pulled out a packet of papers and a pen and sat, beginning to write. I could see the word “EXPULSION” written across the top in bold, red letters. “Will you threaten to hurt me, now?”
Zane ground his jaw and looked at me. He gave me a look as if to say “What the fuck?” and jerked his head toward Alder.
I nodded. He didn’t have to tell me twice. This was not going to fly.
