The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 225

Liora’s POV

“Please line up in an orderly fashion.” The supply runner, sitting behind a folding table in the center of the gymnasium, flapped his hand at the disorganized mass of students.

I stepped into line, glancing down at Mia. “You can let go of me, you know. I’m not going anywhere.”

My friend looked up from where she was clutching my arm like her life depended on it. “I still don’t trust those security guards.”

I didn’t, either. But Mr. Alder hadn’t come for me in the middle of the night, so for now, I think I was in the clear.

The first students made their orders for this week’s supply run. Once the runner wrote down their names and orders, then took their payments, he called out for the next student. The line shifted forward, everyone clamoring to place very overdue orders for food.

“Next!” the runner called. A wolfless student I recognized stepped forward and began to prattle off her order; but before she could finish, the runner held up his hand to stop her. “Not you. Next!”

“What?” The student paled. “Why can’t I place my order?”

“Principal’s orders. Move so the next student can come up.”

The girl stepped aside, eyes wide and full of confusion. Mia and I exchanged looks. “What was that about?” I muttered.

Mia scratched her head. “Weird. I wonder if she had issues paying last time or something?”

“I don’t know, but no one should be turned away just for that.” I waved the girl over. “Hey, what do you need? I’ll order it for you.”

“Thank you so much.” The girl wrung her hands as she gave me her list. It was just rice, beans, and some menstrual pads. I smiled and promised to get everything for her.

It was my turn next. But as I stepped up to the table, the runner immediately waved me away before I could even place my order. “Next!”
