Liora’s POV
The inside of the castle was just as beautiful as I remembered. Moody lighting, antique furnishings, portraits of royals long passed lining the walls. But it was not home. This wasn’t the royal palace, but my cousin Ambrose’s home.
Everyone gasped and moved around the space, staring at the surroundings in awe.
That strange, unsettled feeling only grew in my gut despite the warmth coming from the flickering braziers. I couldn’t put my finger on it; I had only visited Falcon’s Reach once, a few years ago, and I hardly remembered anything from that night other than drinking too much at a banquet and retiring early to my room.
I shoved the feelings down. It had to be nerves, nothing more. My mind was just racing from trying to figure out how Bianca had pulled this off.
Bianca gathered everyone in the grand foyer. Her voice echoed off the stone walls as she announced, “The staff will arrive soon to take everyone’s bags to their rooms. That’s right—you’ll all be in your own rooms this weekend! There’s more than enough space for everyone.”
The students tittered in response, exchanging glances and excited looks. I was still trying to figure out how the hell Bianca had managed to get us all here, to my cousin’s place, who rarely even entered the country, when a group of servants entered the room and froze upon seeing us.
Bianca whirled to face them, her mouth stretching into a sneer.
“There you are. It took you long enough.” Bianca snapped her fingers. “Take everyone’s bags to their rooms. Chop chop!”
The servants didn’t move at first. They just stood there, staring at Bianca with confusion.
“What are you doing?” Bianca barked. “Move!”
They still didn’t move. Then, one of the servants spotted me and opened her mouth to say my name, but I cut her off with a nod and mouthed the words: “It’s okay”. She smiled and picked up my bag, then scurried off. The other servants began doing the same.
Mia looked at me. “That was weird.”
I feigned confusion. “What was?”
“You mean you didn’t see that? They looked at Bianca like she’s a stranger.”
I wasn’t sure how to explain that away without saying too much, but it didn’t matter anyway, because Bianca, very pleased with herself as if the servants had obeyed her orders and not mine, stepped forward.
