Liora’s POV
The hallway, which had previously been a cacophony of noise and chatter, suddenly fell as silent as a morgue.
Everyone turned toward Bianca.
She stood there for a long time, hardly moving. I saw the faint twitch of her shoulders. Watched as she slowly raised her hand to her mouth, pressing her fingers against her lips.
“What do you mean?” a student suddenly asked, breaking the silence. “Bianca isn’t the real princess?”
“Nope.” I leaned on my crutch. “She’s been lying to all of us for months. She’s an imposter.”
All eyes turned toward me. Slowly, as if moving in a haze, Bianca turned around. Her face was pale, and her eyes were red.
“How could you say such a thing, Liora?” she breathed. Her voice quavered, but I knew it was all an act. Just like everything else was with her. “Of course I’m the princess. I think I know my own title.”
“Oh, yeah?” I lifted my chin. “Then you must be close with the Queen.”
“Y-Yes, of course! She’s my mother.”
“Tell us something about her.”
Bianca’s lips parted. Then shut again. Then parted once more.
“Why does that matter?” she asked.
“You must know some personal detail that the rest of us don’t,” I said, “seeing as she’s your mother. So enlighten us.”
The hallway was so quiet now you could have heard a pin drop. Bianca stared at me, speechless, for a long time. I could see the gears turning behind her eyes—scrambling to come up with something. Anything.
