A ripple of gasps made its way through the crowd. Several students turned away so as not to watch.
I stared at Bianca the whole time. She stared back.
When she was finished, she straightened. One of her cronies hurried over and handed her a tissue, which she used to dab at her mouth.
“There,” she said. “There’s your proof. I’m pregnant with Callum’s baby. Our child will be the heir to the kingdom. And you, Liora, are a liar.”
“No.” I took a step forward. “No, Bianca. You’re the liar. Everyone, I’m—”
“Liora.”
Callum’s voice pierced through the quiet, and we all turned to see him shoving his way through the crowd. His face was hard, his lips pressed into a thin line. He stopped at the edge of the crowd and looked between me and Bianca.
Finally, his gaze settled on me.
I supposed I had been foolish enough to think that he might come to my aid. That for once, he would finally understand that it was Bianca who had been the liar all along.
But he didn’t. I could see from the look on his face that he didn’t believe me at all.
“Callum,” I breathed. “You have to believe me.”
He ignored me completely and turned to Bianca.
“Callum. Baby.” She held her hands out to him, sniffling now, her fingers trembling. “I don’t feel well… She’s upsetting me…”
“Bullshit!” I whipped toward Bianca. “You’re not upset! You know exactly what you’re doing, you little—”
“Liora. That’s enough.” Callum’s voice was low and full of warning. I turned to him again and found no sympathy in his gaze, and it made my heart shatter anew.
