The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 395

Liora’s POV

I’d been staring at the same page of my textbook for forty minutes.

The words had stopped making sense in my head somewhere around the half hour mark, and at this point I was just looking at them like they were ancient hieroglyphics. I shut the book, pushed it aside, and leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling instead.

If Bianca wasn’t pregnant, then what happened next?

That question kept flitting through my mind no matter how hard I tried to think about something else. Because the obvious answer was that Callum would have no reason to stay with her, right? Because he’d only stayed because of the baby. I was sure of it.

Which meant…

I hated that my mind went straight to what that meant for me. I hated the small, stubborn part of me that wondered if he would come and find me. If he would knock on my door and stand there and actually apologize, properly, for all of it. For choosing her over and over. For looking at me in that hallway like I was the one not to be trusted.

It was a stupid thing to hope for. I knew that.

And yet, I couldn’t seem to help myself.

An apology wouldn’t fix everything, but I couldn’t help but feel that it would be a good enough start to allow myself to forgive him. And maybe someday, we could rebuild what had been lost.

At that thought, my mind went to my father’s list.

He wanted me to pick one of those bachelors by the end of the semester. Maybe that was the smarter thing to do. Pick someone new. Someone with no history and no complications. Save myself the trouble of hoping for something that might never come.

It would certainly hurt less.

I was still sitting there, turning that thought over and over until it began to turn smooth like a stone washed over by the tide, when I heard the sound of raised voices and footsteps in the hallway.
