The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 396

“Just now, just a little while ago—”

“Can you step out, please?” The second medic turned to address the crowd gathered in the doorway. Most of them shuffled back, but nobody went far. I stayed where I was.

The first medic had leaned forward and was examining something near the hem of Bianca’s skirt. He looked around then, and when his eyes fell on the waste basket next to the sink, his eyes widened. He reached into the basket, and when he straightened, he was holding something small between two gloved fingers. He turned it so his colleague could see.

A small capsule. Red-stained at one end, cracked open.

“That’s not blood,” the second medic said.

A ripple ran through the students behind me.

Bianca’s head snapped toward them. “What? That’s not— I don’t know what that is, it’s not mine—”

“There are several more in the bin,” the first medic said. He set the capsule aside and picked up the bin, pulling out a few more. “These are novelty blood capsules. Corn syrup and food coloring. You can get them from any costume shop.” He looked at Bianca. “You’re not having a miscarriage.”

My heart screeched to a halt. I expected the news to come out soon, but not like this.

Bianca looked around the room wildly. Then her face crumpled when she looked at Callum. “B-baby, it’s not what it looks like,” she said. She began crawling over to him. Crawling. Her knees left a trail in the blood across the floor. “Callum, listen to me. Just let me explain—”

“Get up,” Callum said, lifting his chin.

“Baby—”

“Don’t call me that.” His eyes were dark and full of that cold kind of anger that sent a shiver scuttling up even my spine despite not being at the other end of it. “Get up, Bianca.”
