The Rejected True Heiress (Liora and Callum) novel Chapter 431

“He didn’t know—”

“The answer is no, Liora. And that’s final. Your new match should be arriving today.”

“Today?” I breathed. “Dad, you can’t be serious!”

“Deadly, my dear.” He folded his hands together in front of him. “Your new match is someone with standing, with a title. Someone who would be a proper consort for the female Alpha.”

“But I don’t want a proper consort,” I said. My voice came out small and thick with tears, and I hated it. “I want Callum. You know him. You approved of him before all of this, you told me yourself that I should try to repair—”

“That was before,” my father said. “The situation has changed.”

“The situation—” I stopped, pressing my lips together hard to keep from crying, but it was no use. My eyes were burning and my mouth tasted salty from the tears that had already slipped down my cheeks. “You can’t do this. You cannot stand there and tell me who I can and cannot love.”

“I can, and I will.” He was still so infuriatingly calm about it. It was nothing like him at all—to see his daughter crying in front of him and to just… not care. “You will marry the match I set out for you, and you will not continue seeing this boy.”

“I’ll… I’ll leave,” I said. “You can’t control me like this. You can’t force me to marry someone I don’t want. Whatever happened to letting me choose how to live my life?”

My father’s expression hardened into steel. “That was when I thought I could trust you to make the right decisions. But now I know I can’t.”

I exhaled. “And the letter you sent to the school? Was that in service of this?”

His silence was all the answer I needed.

“I can’t be here anymore,” I muttered.
