“You alright?” he asked, heading straight to me.

“Yeah, I’m fine,” I murmured, walking to the couch and sinking down with a heavy sigh. I knew if I’d been even a minute later, I’d have lost it completely.

I turned to Marlik. He stood stunned. He’d watched me fight, hadn’t interrupted once, as though trusting I could handle myself.

“What did they say?” I asked.

“They wanted me to sign those papers.”

“It’s a confession statement,” I told himn. “Just like the one that landed you in jail years ago.”

“To send you to the Moon Tower,” I answered instead. Marlik turned to me in awe. “They have it all covered. All that’s missing is your signature on this statement.”

He fell silent, hurt flashing deep in his eyes at how easily he’d become a target. But one look from me, and he swallowed the vulnerability.

Silence stretched after that solemn promise, until one of the two kneeling men spoke.

‘Feroz will find you. And when he does, everything you’ve built will be gone. Your family, your girl…”
