Chapter 696

Frustred

He searched my eyes for a long beat before that smile deepened, soft and knowing.

“I hate whoever you hate too.” He muttered softly.

He drew me down gently, pressing a kiss to my temple, then pulled back just enough to hold my gaze, really hold it, tender and unguarded.

“I have something to show you.”

He sat up, retrieved his phone, and angled the screen toward me. Photos filled the display. Four different houses, each one more magnificent than the last, luxury poured into every line and curve, set in exclusive neighborhoods.

He watched me as I studied the images. I could feel the weight of his gaze melting into my skin, patient, hopeful. Slowly, I lifted my eyes to meet his, a question forming without words.

“It’s um… it’s…” He faltered, searching for the right phrase, then paused and set his jaw with quiet determination. “I want you to choose a house you’d love to live in as a wife… and a mother.”

My heart stuttered, breath catching in my throat. He was serious. Completely, achingly serious. I turned back to the photos, glancing over them once more before swallowing hard.

“Cupid…” I began, lowering my gaze completely, away from him, away from the images. “I… I think we should slow down. Really.”

Silence crashed in. It stretched so long I wondered if it would ever end. When I finally looked back at him. my heart sank all over again.

For one raw, unguarded moment, the hurt lay bare across his face. Sharp and unguarded before he nodded once, quietly tucking his phone away.

“It’s fine if you need more time,” he said at last, voice low and steady despite the ache beneath it. “I just… I just want you to know I want you. Truly want you.”

“I know.” I replied, sincere, leaning in to kiss him lightly. “I know you want me, and I swear I want you too. I just… I want us to take a breath first.”

“Sure,” he murmured, the sadness flickering again, but he nodded in agreement. “What about the appointment with the doctor for the fertility check-up?”

I nodded. “Tomorrow morning. I was thinking you’d be busy.”

I said it softly, fingertips still tracing his cheek. “I would have loved it and felt much safer if you com along, but… I don’t want to sound like I’m asking too much.”

He looked at me for a long, searching time, brows furrowing tenderly.

“Asking too much?”

dub

“Yes. Just… the comfort of knowing you’re in the hall waiting for me, and there when the results come… it would make me feel safer. But I can do it alone too. Besides, I know how busy you are at work.”

He let the finish, never interrupting, only watching, searching my eyes with that same tender, loving interrsity.

Then he leaned in and kissed me again. This time deeper, slower, pouring everything unspoken into it.

“What’s the time of the appointment?” he asked when he finally pulled back.

“Morning. Ten a.m.”

“I’ll come pick you up myself.”

“Cupid… you’ll be busy. I know you will. Really. I’m fine…”

“I insist,” he said gently, cutting me off. “It’s our problem. Let’s face it together. Alright?”

What could I do without him? The thought slipped through me, soft and certain.

“Alright.”

I never knew Cupid had a fan meeting scheduled for this evening. If I had kirown, I wouldn’t have let him know about my doctor’s appointment but then again. I’m thrilled and quietly relieved that he’s coining

anyway.

Seated alone in my living room, I watched the TV broadcast his latest news and activities.

The footage showed fans already flooding the location, buzzing with excitement, eager to catch even a glimpse of him.

A massive banner of his image dominated the entrance, those lips!’ve kissed, that face I’ve sat on. Heat curled low in my belly at the memory, and I cleared my throat sharply, forcing my senses back under control.

Cupid is so beautiful. And he’s mine. The perfect flex.

My phone chimed, pulling me out of the thought. I picked it up to see a text from Quince.

Judge was changed at the last minute, Snow. Ares Bani’s brother-in-law is the judge for tomorrow’s case.”

I froze, staring at the screen. Brother-in-law? As in Neils White?

Tomorrow, Ares Bani would stand before the court. Was I ready? Maybe. But I hadn’t seen this twist coming, not from a mile away.

Part of me almost wanted to watch him try to wriggle free, just to see how far his arrogance would carry

him.

The low rumble of a car pulling up outside snapped me back. I rose quickly and moved to the window.

It was Cupid.

I grabbed my bag, switched off the TV, and hurried out.

He had already stepped out of the car and met me halfway, wrapping me in a gentle, enveloping hug. Tender. Steady.

Today, this morning, he wore casual dark trousers paired with black boots, and a long-sleeved T-shirt that clung to his body in all the right ways, accentuating every line of muscle.

“You alright?” he asked softly, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

I nodded. “Yeah.”

“Come on. Let’s get you in.”

He walked me to the passenger side and opened the door for me with that quiet chivalry of his.

Once I was settled, he closed it gently but instead of immediately circling to the driver’s side, he paused.

His gaze drifted to the exact spot where Ares had stood yesterday, yelling accusations into the evening like a man unraveling

For a heart-stopping few seconds, Cupid stared at the empty space, expression unreadable, blank, almost distant. Then he turned, slid into the driver’s seat, and started the engine without a word.

We pulled out of the estate and merged onto the main street. The very first billboard we passed featured his latest campaign. That flawless face, the skin system ad glowing under morning light. I turned to him with a wide, genuine grin.

“My God, you look even more gorgeous in real life than in the pictures,”

He didn’t reply right away, just offered a small, almost distracted smile. I studied him for a moment longer, concern creeping in.

“Is everything okay?”

He glanced at me briefly, then nodded once. I nodded back and eased into my seat, a soft sigh slipping out before I could catch it.

Maybe we all needed time off. A real break from the chaos because it was too much, piling higher every day.
