Seeing that she refused to take it off, Zane Whitaker had no choice but to remove his own shirt, hoping to wring it out and let it dry a bit before giving it to her.

"Excuse me, Ms. Vance."

Zane undid his collar, shrugged off the dress shirt, and wrung the water out of the fabric with forceful twists.

Elara Vance cast a fleeting glance at his bare torso. They were alone, a man and a woman, out in the middle of nowhere.

Wasn't this a bit...

Indecent.

Zane draped the damp shirt over the railing of the pavilion outside.

When he came back inside, he saw she was still dripping wet and said, "You can take off your clothes and wring them out too. I promise I won't turn around."

Elara averted her gaze. "I don't need to."

"If you won't wring them out, I'll do it for you."

Elara quickly turned her back to him.

There were two daybeds facing each other inside the tented pavilion. Zane stood by his side, took off his trousers, wrung out the water, and put them back on.

Once he was done, he noticed she was still standing in the exact same spot, barefoot. "You really should wring out your clothes," he urged.

Elara peeked at Zane's bare chest, turned her face away in annoyance, and ignored him.

She figured this was the perfect definition of all show and no go.

He looked tall and built, and sure, he was more well-endowed than most, but what good was that?

He still couldn't perform.

Elara was soaked to the bone and completely miserable. Cursing his uselessness in her head helped her vent some of her frustration.

Standing was exhausting, so Elara didn't care about getting the cushions wet and just lay down on the daybed.

When you were comfortable, lying on a daybed was a romantic experience under the moon and stars.

When you were miserable, every passing second was pure torture.

Lying with her back to him, Elara finally couldn't hold back. "Don't you smoke, Zane? Does your lighter not work? We could at least light a fire."

Zane knew she was freezing and uncomfortable. "I have a lighter, but no firewood."

"If you don't have wood, don't you have money? Can't you burn some cash?"
